Poll: Giuliani trails McCain in NY, Clinton leads Obama

ALBANY, N.Y. - Rudolph Giuliani's once commanding lead in the race for New York's Republican delegates has evaporated and he now trails Sen. John McCain in his home state, according to a poll released Monday.

The Siena College poll also showed Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has a 2-to-1 advantage over Sen. Barack Obama in the delegate-rich state she represents in Congress.

Giuliani trailed McCain by 12 percentage points, a sharp reversal from the former New York City mayor's 33-point lead over the Arizona senator in December.

McCain had the support of 36 percent of New York Republicans, while Giuliani had 24 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had 10 percent.

"Among Democrats, Hillary Clinton still has a strong home field advantage, maintaining a two-to-one lead over Barack Obama," Greenberg said. "While he has picked up considerable support with African- and Caribbean-American Democrats, Obama still trails Clinton 46-36 percent among black Democrats, and Clinton has a 50-18 percent lead with white Democrats."

Clinton had the support of 48 percent of New York Democrats polled. Obama had 23 percent.

"We are gratified by the outpouring of support for Sen. Clinton throughout New York, but are taking nothing for granted and working hard for every vote," said Clinton spokesman Blake Zeff.

nomination but, on the other, I do not want him to do well anywhere! Maybe someone else who is not McCain can win Florida instead... Giuliani's fall from grace has been the best poetic justice story so far in this election and what an easy guy to hate! I was stunned to see Jon Voight behind him in one of the Florida events shown on CNN -- guess I missed that endorsement.

and I honestly think the man has severe mental problems. He started talking about it being our patriotic duty to stand by our President no matter what. He really came off as quite insane.

He should have at least contested Iowa & New Hampshire to try to finish 2nd or 3rd. Hindsight is 20-20, though.

Or maybe that he has a one-note campaign (9/11) that never had a chance. In any case, ta-ta Rudy.

After 8 years of listening to conservatives and Republicans lambaste the Clintons and their lack of morals, character and ethics, I just want to hear these people explain how they can justify Guiliani as their nominee for president. He's been married three times. You know he's cattin' around with other women. Has close ties with organized crime figures. Not opposed to gay lifestyles. Supports gun control. Lies like a thief.

I'd like to watch all of these religious right nutcases' heads collectively explode when they try to explain Giuliani as their party's candidate.

How is it possible for two war mongers to win the nominations in a country that is suppose to be 70% against the war? This is unbelievable. Just wait until Hillary go into the General election against pro war McCain and I'll bet you her anti war rhetoric will go out the window, she will transform back into a war hawk.

The odds on favorites are probably still Hillary and now Romney...but if you're watching the political shows and the polls and reading the wins as they come in....the Repub race is split four ways, and the Democratic race is split two ways.

Either race could go any number of ways, at this point.

If Obama loses S.C., then Hillary will probably be considered the leading candidate. Obama currently has more state delegates than Hillary, and on the Repub side, Romney has far more delegates than any other Repub candidate.

If I had to wager, I'd put my $$ on the Repub candidate as being Romney. I wouldn't wager yet on the Dem. side. It's just too even steven. If FORCED to wager, I'd put my $$ on Obama. But really, either one could win, at this stage.

the nearest one to him has, I think, 39 delegates. I think that's Huckabee.

Looks like the Repub race will be a numbers game, to be decided on Super Tuesday. Could be McCain. Could be Romney. If Guiliani wins Florida, there's a chance it could be him, too. (Doesn't look like G. will win Florida, though.) Huckabee is a wild card. The Dems would be very fortunate if Huckabee would win the GOP nomination, since he'd be easy to beat, IMO.
