House passes stimulus package
Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House overwhelmingly approved $146 billion in income tax rebates and business tax breaks Tuesday to give the economy a quick jolt, but the Senate planned a different approach later this week that will delay final action.

The House's 385-35 vote was unusually swift and bipartisan, reflecting lawmakers' fears that the economy may be heading into a recession unless taxes are cut. Together with the Federal Reserve's recent interest rate cuts, Republicans and Democrats hope a fiscal stimulus package could reverse that slide.

Proponents of the House plan, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., warned that changes in the Senate could delay congressional approval and push back the mailing of rebate checks, already likely to take two to four months.

"It's important that the package not get overloaded," Pelosi said. "Let's hope that the Senate will take its lead from us and be disciplined … and responsible."

Be disciplined and responsible Nancy? What is responsible about this bill? How are we paying for it? Or are you just following the Repuke lead of tax breaks with no balance? By disciplined, I assume you mean to follow whatever Shrub wants? Good God, this is a mess. Handing out money to people is the way to fix it according to these losers.

And I still don't see if we have to pay this "rebate" back next year, like Bush I did a few years back.

6. I think I heard there was supposed to be something for SS, but nothing for disability
or unemployment or food stamps. Nothing to help those who are really taking it in the teeth. The sole point of this, on the surface, was to get people to spend money, presumably on more Chinese-made crap. But it really amounts to vote buying in an election year.

4. Buying votes in an election year, this should help prop up their abysmal approval rating with voters

10. Ding ding ding ding ding
When one candidate says, "I want to give you $600" It's hard to say, "I'm the guy that prevented you from getting $600, now please vote for me." And most Americans are too stupid to see how irresponsible this is, or else they don't care.

12. What's funny is when I talk to people about it, they all say "Where
are we getting the money?" It seems that people are questioning it, but once they put enough time between this and the elections and then they can all say "hey, remember that $600 we got for you?"
