DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO – The pipe bomb that blasted through the front of the downtown federal courthouse early Sunday morning wasn't sophisticated, but it was built to kill and was powerful enough to hurl shrapnel two blocks.
As many as 40 agents are pursuing multiple leads and examining evidence, including footage from security cameras that shows the blast and people near the Front Street building.
“They're working this around the clock,” said FBI Special Agent Keith Slotter, who runs the bureau's San Diego office.
No one was injured, and no one has claimed responsibility for the blast, which occurred at 1:40 a.m. The courthouse was closed yesterday because the bomb damaged security equipment at the front entrance. It's expected to reopen today.
