Sharpton Plans Another NYC Protest Over Police Shooting
Source: Associated Press

(05-08) 12:32 PDT NEW YORK, (AP) --

A day after his carefully orchestrated protests briefly blocked rush-hour traffic, the Rev. Al Sharpton on Thursday promised to stage another mass protest over three police detectives' acquittals in the 50-bullet killing of an unarmed man.

The next protest is planned somewhere in New York City within seven to 10 days, said Charlie King, acting national director of Sharpton's National Action Network. He said no other details would be released until next week.

"Yesterday was the beginning of a long and sustained campaign of civil disobedience," King said.

Sharpton, two survivors of the shooting, the slain man's fiancee and more than 200 other demonstrators were arrested Wednesday after they blocked traffic at the Brooklyn Bridge, the Holland Tunnel and other major transportation arteries.

The protests were aimed at getting the U.S. attorney's office to pursue civil rights charges against the undercover detectives, who were acquitted of wrongdoing in the shooting last month in state court. Federal prosecutors are reviewing the case but declined to comment Thursday.

May it never happen to somebody in your family, Granny.

14. Two of those cops were black. And the car itself had evidence of
being used as an assault weapon. Those cops had reason to fear, although they failed to follow guidelines in the heat of the moment.

But facts are facts and were undisputed @ trial.

15. The NYPD is a gang, gang members stand together and gang leaders stand by their members
One of the reason these multiple shootings happen is that if there are multiple shooters they can't testify against each other. So who are these individual officers loyal to, the city and justice or just each other? And Kelly? His first reaction is always to smear the victim, not a promise and effort to get the bottom of the truth. His loyalty is clear, to his thug members, he needs their loyalty.

18. And how many officers do you know? I've met the chain of command
in my precinct, up to the commanding officers. I've also gone through the civilian police academy @ NYPD's request.

So, don't lecture me on a subject of which you have nothing but sectarian interest. If you want solutions, don't start by insulting the men and women, of all ethnic groups, who patrol my city.

3. I don't understand their focus
I was at one of the demos yesterday and I found the focus to be resolutely backwards. I'm not critizing Bell's family and friends but the demos should be more than just a memorial. They should have a focus of actual change for the future, IMO. If there is a problem culture in the NYPD, and there is, how do you change it? Snakes die with the head. Let's have a campaign to get rid of Kelly. Considering Judge Cooperman -- how was he selected or elected? Let's make him pay.

I have real doubts about Sharpton. Perhaps he's the government's man whose job it is to guide the anger and demonstrations into ineffectiveness. His past, of course, includes being an FBI informant and the moneyman for his presidential campaign was the Republican pervert and bigtime player, Roger Stone (that was a WTF moment). Funny how that is, despite his critics saying they'd do things better.

10. that was one of Alinsky's main complaints about liberals
too many say "I agree with what you're trying to do but not how you're trying to do it. Do it some other way, so that I can approve". But they don't do anything themselves.

11. I Thought The Main Complaint Against Liberals Is That
they are too fair-minded to take their own side of the argument. But that quote sums up the crab/barrel game all too succinctly.

12. I'm pretty sure that's someone else's complaint, not Alinsky's
But it does seem to put a frame around the spinelessness, doesn't it.

13. Funny how having no visible means of support, no job yet unlimited funds for fighting fires
is an aid in taking over movements. Just look at the peace movement. UFPJ couldn't even take Central Park. Watch Sharpton's actions carefully. Is he interested in change or mollifying anger? Is he a change agent or a pacification agent?
