Memo Shows Frustration With Special Counsel
Staffers Hinted At Impropriety

By Christopher Lee
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, May 11, 2008; Page A04

Last September, career investigators at the U.S. Office of Special Counsel opened a probe into whether partisan politics were a factor in the Justice Department's prosecution of former Democratic Alabama governor Don Siegelman on corruption charges in 2006.

Siegelman, who narrowly lost his reelection bid in 2002 and intended to run again in 2006, has insistently alleged that Karl Rove, then a White House adviser, targeted him for prosecution to ensure he did not oust a Republican governor.

But on Oct. 11, OSC chief Scott J. Bloch ordered the case file be closed immediately, saying that he had not authorized it, seven career employees wrote in an internal draft memo made public last week.

"After concerns are expressed that OSC simply cannot close a file without conducting an investigation into theses allegations, the TF is directed to not further investigate this case and to wait for further instructions from the Special Counsel," the employees wrote in the document dated Jan. 18. ................

2. Gee, the Republicans sure changed their tune . . .
In the 1990s, they wanted to investigate everything, including, and I'm not kidding, whether the Clinton White House was misusing funds in answering kids' letters to Socks, the Clintons' cat. Now, it looks very much like partisan politics figured heavily in the prosecution of Don Siegelman, and nobody wants to know nuthin'.

Very odd behavior indeed from the "law and order" crowd.

He narrowly lost because the prosecuted him before the election. What a crock.

But Rove gets to be an analyst on some stupid cable network.

7. IMPORTANT - Look at the Readers' comments
Click on the Comments link to the right of the article. I found this one very interesting....

"My name is Douglas Kinan. I am a former Defense Contract Management Agency employee. I opposed and refused to join in with the DCMAE Chief Counsel, Bruce Krasker and his former Deputy Counsel, Jerome C. Brennan to frame innocent employees, engage in well planned discrimination, illegally manipulate complaints and investigations, fix promotions and numerous other DoD violations.

Bruce Krasker, acting on his own, without DoD authority, has continued to subsidize extensive criminal activity and government fraud, using tens of millions of taxpayer dollars. The most recent frame up and rigged investigation, involves whistleblower, Ken Pedeleose.

A string of verified felony conduct was reported to the Office of Special Counsel and the Defense Hotline. Both "watchdogs" covered up this criminal activity, which is opposite to what they do. Defense Hotline Director, Leonard Trahan, Jr and Scott Bloch's malfeasance has caused deep harm to thousands of DoD employeess, other government employees and wasted tens of millions of tax dollars.

I have evidence and can provide testimony that the Office of Special Counsel and Scott Bloch participated in covering up the framing of innocent individuals and numerous other prohibited personnel practices and made false official statements when I was notified that the conduct I reported "are not "prohibited personnel practices."

As to the subpoenas issued by the FBI for witnesses. I have volunteered to be a witness without a subpoena but have not heard from the FBI."

Also, Mr. Kinan posted his contact information in his comments.
