Rather than echo his supporters or review his platform on health care, the environment, or the war in Iraq, I want to add a different voice to those who believe Senator Obama would make a fine President. He is the antidote we need to cure Washington of the uninspired, partisan politics that has plagued our country far too long.Akaka was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1976, where he served until being appointed to the Senate in 1990. He is the first senator of native Hawaiian descent.
Akaka is the second superdelegate from Hawaii to endorse Obama today. It was announced earlier that Hawaii Democratic Party member Dolly Strazar was supporting the Illinois senator.
