Obama to respond (directly) to Bush remarks
Source: CNN

(CNN)–CNN has confirmed that Barack Obama will respond directly to President Bush’s apparent criticism of his foreign policy vision, which includes a willingness to consider dialogue with Iran and other nations hostile to the United States. The Illinois senator’s response will come at a campaign event later Friday in South Dakota.

The news was first revealed by senior Obama foreign policy adviser Susan Rice on NBC Friday morning.

In an address before the Israeli Knesset Thursday, President Bush compared leaders who advocated dialogue with nations like Iran to politicians who appeased Nazi aggression in the years leading up to the Second World War.

2. So, instead of talking issues, Obama
feels the need to respond to an idiot? Why give an idiot on his way out the door any credibility at all?

He can call him what he is, lame-ass duck, who has been wrong about everything he opened his mouth about, and every policy he attempted. He can smack down chimpy and tie mcDubya around his waist.

13. Because McCain and the Repubs are going to make Israel's security an issue in the election
Edited on Fri May-16-08 09:30 AM by Mike Daniels
The evangelicals aren't keen on McCain at this point. However, once you make Israel's security a major part of your policy you can jolly well bet that the evangelicals will start coming on board even if McCain sells them down the river on every other issue.

Bush isn't as stupid as he looks. You can bet that this was planned to the letter and the Dems probably reacted exactly as anticipated.

Any strategy other than pointing out where Bush's administration has acted contrary to Bush's sentiments from yesterday is going to be ineffective.

19. That is an interesting thought. Where's Rove?
Are the Democrats and Obama falling into a trap? Did Bush speak out yesterday to divert attention from Rove and the DOJ's problems with Rove refusing or threatening to refuse to honor the subpoena?

These guys love that kinda game.

25. bush* won the 2004 election by firing up the right wing &getting them to vote
Whereas many of them would have been disconnected and sat out that election (like they usually do).

It remains to be seen if Bush and McCheney are going to be able to finesse this slander. I think McCain has a limit to how much he can "win" on the war issue, because America woke up to the horror of this naked aggression.

23. No more swiftboating. I'm sure that breaks your heart, but Obama
promised he would not let lies & innuendo go unanswered, and so far he's kept that promise. And since when is foreign policy not an "issue"?

26. It's not responding to an idiot, it's about refuting lies and half-truths
Obama has learned from the mistakes of Kerry in 2004. Respond immediately, before these things have a chance to fester. Do you recall "Swiftboating"?

27. Are You Kidding?
Of course Obama should reply to this idiot! If Bush wants to act as McCain's surrogate, be my guest! The more Obama gets to respond to Bush's dumb comments, the easier it is to equate McCain to W. I can't wait to hear Obama's reponse. We can get into policy later. After all, policy isn't exactly the Repug's strong suit at this point.

33. It iIS an issue and it DOES deserve a response
Kerry and Gore both lost, in large part, because they overestimated the general public's ability to see through this bull.

Obama is not making this mistake.

7. I think this is a good thing.
He needs to address the innuendo & lies directly,,,, plus, he'll get the national press coverage while he does it.

Let Bush, let McCain and their minions do what they do best,,, Obama can handle it with both substance & style.

17. Oh, the irony for Bush to call anyone an "appeaser," when Bush's
grandfather actually traded with the enemy (Nazi Germany).

Of course, the corporate whore media won't bring up the Bush family's sordid past vis-a-vis Nazi Germany. And why should they, in the United States of Amnesia? (with apologies to Gore Vidal)

22. Considering that
the Bush Adminsitration is paying 18 million dollars a month to Iraqi insurgents to not attack our soldiers is a more fitting example of appeasement than anything Obama or any other Democrat has proposed.

I hope Obama rips the chimp a new one.

34. This is a no-brainer
And Bush was an idiot to insert himself here.

The best thing that Obama can do is to keep going after Bush. Bush is almost nationally despised, and every time he opens his mouth and some idiocy falls out (in other words, whenever he opens his mouth), Obama should be right there calling him on it - and linking it to McCain and pointing out how McCain wants to keep the Bush "legacy" going.

The right thing to do AND a very easy way to make a lot of political headway...

BTW the whole idea of never to talk to those with which we disagree is "policy" befitting a 5 year old. That so many Americans fall for this shit is just plain depressing.
