In her first public comments on her husband's diagnosis, Kennedy's wife, Vicki, said the brain tumor was "a real curveball" that left his family stunned even as he joked and laughed with them.

"Teddy is leading us all, as usual, with his calm approach to getting the best information possible," she wrote in an e-mail Tuesday to friends.

"He's also making me crazy (and making me laugh) by pushing to race in the Figawi this weekend," she wrote, referring to the annual sailing race from Cape Cod to Nantucket.

3. It depends on where the tumor is
The pictures of him in his hospital room released yesterday were taken before the biopsy. If we who have survived anatomy classes knew where they'd drilled the hole, we'd know more about how the symptoms are likely to progress.

He will probably still be with us in August. Whether or not he's capable of standing at a podium and giving a speech is in doubt. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

5. According to doctors:
"Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe," according to a hospital statement.

6. "Left parietal lobe" covers a lot of territory
and there are a lot of things living in it and close to it, including the speech center in the left temporal lobe.

8. The guy's got style, that's for sure.
Is he rattled? Is he ruined? Is he curled in a corner crying over the diagnosis?

Nope.

"Hey, let's go sailing," he says, "it'll be a terrific weekend."

Gotta love the Ol' Lion. :patriot: :loveya: :yourock:

I love sailboats and races, unfortunately, my own little sunfish would have never made it to the islands.

There is just something truly amazing about harnessing the wind and flying over the waves.

15. Sign the Get Well Card
"Dear MoveOn member,

We're sure you've seen the news reports by now: Progressive firebrand and champion, Senator Ted Kennedy, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

Our hearts sank when we heard the news—-but if there is one thing we all know about Senator Kennedy, it's that he's a fighter. And we're all here to support him.

We've heard from a lot of members who want to send their best wishes to Senator Kennedy and his family. So we put together a card to let Senator Kennedy know that he's in our thoughts and prayers. Senator John Kerry will personally deliver it to Senator Kennedy, along with all our comments.
