Australian GovernmentToday (30th April 2009) the Australian government implemented full border measures to help delay the introduction of Human Swine Influenza into Australia.
This follows a decision by the World Health Organization (WHO) to upgrade its Influenza Pandemic Alert Phase from 4 to 5.
Although the WHO Director-General has announced the change to Phase 5, which means the presence of human-to-human spread in two countries in one WHO region, in Australia there remain no cases of Human Swine Influenza.

The health declaration cards will be available for use from Friday evening.
The measures in more detail:
* Placement and operation of thermal scanners in eight Australian international airports – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. Passengers who are detected by the scanners as having a raised temperature, will then seen by medical staff. These people will have their temperature taken and may be required to provide a nose or throat swab IF that is considered necessary. This will be done by clinically trained health care professionals. Public health authorities can put anyone who is believed to have been exposed to swine flu under surveillance, until their status has been resolved.

This flu has already been traveling globally.
Very intense.
Here in Central CA,
many of my students went to Mexico to visit and stay with family over Spring Break.
Our incubation period is coming due.
One school closed 30 miles from me because of two students, one positive, and one being tested.
Globally seen as a threat.
Intense because it's basically at my doorstep, especially with the contacts I have all day long in the high school classroom.
