Detained Myanmar opposition leader on IV drip
Source: Associated Press

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — Myanmar's detained opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has difficulty eating and has been taking fluids intravenously, her party said Sunday, calling for the military government to allow a doctor to see the Nobel laureate.

Suu Kyi's primary physician was detained for questioning by the authorities Thursday after an American was arrested after allegedly sneaking into her closely guarded home and staying there for more than two days. Another doctor was permitted Friday to see the 63-year-old Suu Kyi, who is rarely allowed to leave the compound where she is under house arrest.

But the doctor's request for a follow-up visit on Saturday was rejected, said a spokesman for Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy.

"We are worried about Daw Suu's health. Authorities should allow free access of her doctor to give Daw Suu the required medical treatment," said the spokesman, Nyan Win. "Daw" is an honorific used for older women.

1. Despite what the Associated Press says, Aung San Suu Kyi does not live in Myanmar.
She lives in Burma, as she has said herself.

4. Also the democratically elected leader of Burma.
Just that the military government decided to ignore the results of the election and keep her imprisoned ever since :(

Mark.

5. Unfortunately, virtually every major news organization has switched.
And per LBN rules, we're not allowed to change the headlines.

I am in total sympathy to your POV, though...

2. Amazing how afraid the mean tough generals are of the little woman.
Aung San Suu Kyi is a giant in a nation of political midgets. The military junta fumbled the ball in the aftermath of last year's typhoon Nargis, and they felt so threatened by a group of peaceful Buddhist monks that they used draconian measures to beat them into submission.

6. oh, man... Those generals should be rushing Johns Hopkins or Mayo-level docs in...
....with shiploads of equipment regardless of expense.

They are gonna be in for SUCH a world of hurt if anything happens to her. The country will explode. It will make the Buddhist monks' protests look like a game of hopscotch.

In fact, if they're smart, they'll call for a well-equipped jet and evacuate her to some other country where she can get topnotch medical care, ASAP.

But they've already demonstrated that "smart" isn't one of their skills.

prognosticatorially,
Bright
