Hundreds protest Rove’s central Illinois visit
Source: State Journal Register

PEORIA — .Hundreds of people in central Illinois have protested outside a closed-door fundraiser that featured Republican strategist Karl Rove.

Rove spoke for about an hour Monday at a gathering sponsored by the Economic Freedom Alliance, a group that opposes the proposed Employee Free Choice Act. The people rallying outside represented unions that support the legislation.

The law would eliminate employers’ rights to demand secret-ballot elections for workers voting to form unions.

The fundraiser’s estimated 40 attendees included members of the business community.
Democratic Peoria County board member Mike Phelan called the Fox News commentator’s appearance "a big step backwards."

1. Decency. It's called basic decency. Rove knows nothing of it.
I am so tired of Rush, Cheney, Rove, Gingrich - white men about my age who know nothing of basic human decency.

Hell, Nixon was better than these guys. And he sucked.

3. WOW! Only 40 attendees and rove found it 'valuable' to spend his time there?
Are these 40 "guys" like the Peoria "bildeburgers" or something? Must have been some very powerful 'locals' in that group.

"All politics is local."

Wonder who the 40 attendees were?

10. I think even more people would have been there if his appearance
had been more widely publicized. I was at work, but on another day or in the evening, would have made the drive to protest the continued freedom of this suppurating pustule on the buttocks of the republic.

Any possibility DU could start a "registry" of local appearances of "persons of interest" to liberals? If cross-referenced by date and state, we could check where our signs and slogans and warm bodies might be put to the best use, recruit friends, organize road trips and plan our month of tending liberty's garden.

8. Cheney occasionally comes to Austin, but...
I don't think they announce his visits in advance. We only find out after he's left.

9. Peoria is a pragmatic town whose strength depends on it's unions.
Edited on Tue May-12-09 07:02 PM by juno jones
I was born there, my family lived in the area, most spent some time or another working union jobs at Caterpillar or Keystone. My father recieved his MA (thanks to the old VA) from Bradley U.

I'm sorry it's taken the thirty years of Reagan's strangulation of labor to sink in but it is heartening to see hundreds facing off 40.

Don't fuck with Peoria, boys. They used to say 'all great acts die in Peoria', well, Rove is dying in Peoria.
