Man who used credit card to mail bogus anthrax threat pleads guilty

When it comes to mail crime, the wise criminal pays cash for postage.

An Overland Park man has pleaded guilty to sending the IRS white powder that he claimed was anthrax. Investigators traced the letter to an automated postal center in Shawnee, where the postage was paid with a credit card.

John P. Barker, 47, admitted that in June 2008 he mailed the powder to the Internal Revenue Service in Texas, prosecutors said. They said the letter, which had a spelling problem, contained the statement: �YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO ANRAX DIE!�

A federal judge will sentence Barker to up to five years.
