NRA convention bringing top GOP brass to Phoenix
By

arizona daily star

PHOENIX — The state's largest city will play host to gun-rights advocates from across the country this weekend, who are gathering for the National Rifle Association's annual convention.
But the real "big guns" may be the list of conservative headliners, who are descending on Phoenix for what some are calling the most significant event for the embattled Republican Party outside of its own national convention.

With a slate of GOP top brass and series of forums and discussions, the weekend is likely to be, as least in part, a dialogue about not just gun rights — but the future of the Republican Party.

And the estimated 60,000 attendees are expect to provide both an economic boost — potentially $70 million — and a chance to highlight the state on a major political platform.

The outspoken chairman of the National Republican Party, Michael Steele, will open today's "Celebration of American Values" forum inside the U.S. Airways Center.

1. No Jim Webb? No Jon Tester? No House signatories on that letter to Holder?
Disappointing, but I'm not surprised.

The NRA knows about these folks, but their outreach to pro-gun Democrats has been sadly lacking.

And Michael Steele, last I heard, isn't a favorite among the NRA brass.

This is all so screwed up.

2. It's what the NRA really is. If they pretend to be anything more than an adjunct to the GOP
at this point, they're foolin' folks.

5. The NRA represents the weapons industry
Their goal is to maximize sales of small arms to any potential buyer, law abiding or not. They are representing the interests of the Mafia.
