8. Close to LAX....
...Inglewood - Hawthorn area.

I am a bit south of the area ~~ Palos Verdes Penn. It was a HARD HIT here. One picture off the wall, eyeglasses fell off a counter, and a few books fell off a shelf.

36. Dallas TX area had a 3.3 quake on Saturday
2nd one in a few months. I know that they can happen anywhere but it's still kinda scary to think about since I doubt this area's buildings are built to withstand them--least not the stronger quakes.

I have not had anything fall off the wall since the Sylmar Quake ~~ I lived in Upland. To night, I had one picture fall off a wall, eyeglasses off a counter and a few books off a shelf.

Wow...that really shook me up ~~ the dog is still hiding under my desk!

It was quite exciting!

Some stuff fell over, and all my pictures are crooked!

I was surprised at how strong it felt...

Our home is a custom job, and I've been wanting a real quake to test how well the framing carpenter did his job...

He gets an Aplus!

39. Certainly could be!
From what I am hearing, the L.A. area did not feel it as much as those of us about the same distance south of the epicenter as L.A. is north of it. Seems that the fault line runs closer to us in South Bay than to those in L.A.

It was a hell of a jolt down here!

42. I think the Santa Monica Mountains function as sort of a shock absorber
which is a good for us if the Newport-Inglewood lets loose with a biggie some day. We don't need another Northridge-style pounding EVER again.

46. Earthquake glue worked for me so far

All my pictures and mirrors were fine.
I read today that the EQ glue should be changed regularly so I'm getting a ton of it today if I can find it.

It's on the internet for $6.00.

48. Got a link for that stuff?
I use museum wax to keep pictures straight...but that did not work at all for an earthquake. Everything was kitty-wonkus. I have some collectibles I would like to cement down a bit better.

TIA...:hi:

49. Link
It looks the same as Museum glue.

I've used both kinds - remember the earthquake last summer in Los Angeles?

I was away and when I got home I didn't notice anything out of order.
It wasn't until 3 days later that I noticed that the mirror behind the bell collection cabinet in the living room had come off the wall.

It fell straight down and landed on the rug. Not even scratched.
Nothing else in the house was changed.
All I can say is it had to be the "putty" because the neighbors had a few items that broke and nothing broke at my house.

http://www.preparedness.com/qusereeapuad.html

I would love to get straps for my televisions but the way they sit, I don't have a wall that I want to stick holes in to hold them.
I'm still investigating because those are high ticket items that I would have to try to replace.

Good luck to all of us.

45. I'm about five miles from the airport and it really rocked
and rolled in my neighborhood.

I had earthquake glue on most of my items but nothing for the TV's.
Everything was still standing.

The funny thing is we had our house retrofitted about 8 yrs. ago.

I was here right after that and it felt like a train was going through the house when a huge rumble came.
Nothing was damaged but it was a different feeling from all the earlier times.

Last night was different, I don't think the quake was as close as the one I felt a few years back.

Last night sure was a wake up call.

I was in Michigan about 12 years ago and there was an earthquake.
My co workers laughed and told me I was crazy when I told them to take cover.

They were convinced that MI never had earthquakes -- then they read the newspaper the next day.

16. It definitely had some oomph here in Silver Lake, but not too scary
It was a solid series of jolts and some rolling, but it wasn't as terrifying as I'd expect from something that big and that near.

For those of you unfamiliar to the area, Silver Lake is a reservoir and hilly lefty enclave just northwest of downtown. You can see it on Hepburn's map: it's that little blotch of blue just above and to the right of the shield marking the 101.

The one a few weeks ago was a bit of a roll, too, but I was in the valley at the time.

Hey, just another day in paradise...

Presumably, this was the Newport-Inglewood fault, so those along the coast with more liquefaction must have had quite a ride. You're in a really active area. Did the roads around Portugese Bend open up?

18. I have not heard of any major damages to any structure...
...the worse I heard of was tiles falling off the ceiling of a movie theater in, I think, Inglewood or Hawthorne. That was about it.

My guy pal in Mar Vista (west LA, area of Santa Monica airport for those who are not familiar) said about the same as what you said about Silver Lake. It seemed to have hit a lot harder in South Bay than in the areas north of Lennox.

...it does seem that those of us south of it were harder hit than those north of it. Frpm talking to pals in different locations in SoCal, this sure seems to be the impression...and not the map seems to indicate this exact pattern.
