Ruling means Siegelman remains free until August
May 22, 2009 13:32 EDT

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A ruling by a federal appeals court means it will be at least August before former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman has to return to federal prison.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has granted Siegelman's motion to delay returning his case to a lower court in Montgomery until after the U.S. Supreme Court decides if it will hear the former governor's appeal of his conviction in a government corruption case.

The order says the former governor's case will not be returned to Montgomery until Aug. 12 at the earliest.

Siegelman is currently out of prison on an appeal bond. His attorney, Vince Kilborn, says the ruling means the former governor will remain free for at least three months.

3. The DOJ now has more time to get off its butt on this.
I have never seen anything like this.

His nerves must be really on edge...mine are just thinking about how he has been treated.

And when I see our Democrats with Karl Rove...I want to scream at them.

13. Kick for more exposure. Major shame and outrage. First they came for ...
... the Alabama Governor, but I was not an Alabama citizen, so I didn't take action. Paraphrasing, maybe badly, but the principle is there. Political Corruption v. Rule of Law will get to us all, eventually.
