BY JOEL FULTON

A crowd gathered along the street and workers peered from their office windows Friday morning as two construction workers hung from the side of a nine-story building.

The workers were pressure washing the exterior of one of Mutual of Omaha's buildings at 33rd and Farnam Streets when the platform holding them broke apart.

Rescuers pulled one worker up and off the platform about 11:30 a.m.

Omaha firefighters rescue workers from a ninth-floor scaffolding that broke Friday morning at Mutual of Omaha.

The second man was rescued about 11:40 a.m.

1. It always stuns me when friends and family get in my car and insist on not wearing a seat belt.
Harnesses, seat belts, safety lines... all of that stuff was designed to prevent something that provably happens if you don't use safety gear.

Good on these guys for being smart and using their safety equipment!

2. If it's my car
It doesn't go in gear until everyone is wearing their seatbelt. Even consenting adults. They want to ride without, they can get in another car.

3. Darn liberals

forcing government regulation into the workplace and mandating equipment purchases (like safety harnesses), affecting the business profit and making it difficult to compete in the marketplace. Other countries like China don't require them, and look how hard it is to compete with them already!

What will they think of regulating next?

Ooh, I know - probably limiting emissions on factories - now THAT would be expensive to implement.

7. this is why any "Free State Project" would fail: the libertarians would be dead within a month,
from being flung through windshields, getting their brains splattered on pavements, drinking arsenic water, gun duels, workplace accidents, melamine sausages, antifreeze mouthwash,
Half would die at home, waiting for medical treatment, because there'd be no minimum wage, employee co-pays, or Medicare. After all, the most basic human right, (is) the right to bargain in a free marketplace." Any elderly would be set adrift on an ice floe, or skinned and eaten by the G. Gordon Liddy survivalists.

so, in conclusion, as long as there's gravity, money, and sociopaths, we DO need the "nanny state" to "protect us from ourselves" with mandatory laws
