French tourist kidnapped in Pakistan

PARIS (AP) — France's Foreign Ministry says a French tourist has been kidnapped in southern Pakistan.

A statement Saturday from the Foreign Ministry said officials at the French Embassy in Islamabad were working to resolve the situation. It did not provide any further details.

A Pakistani police official told The Associated Press the French tourist was taken at gunpoint from a village in the southern Baluchistan province.

Dalbandin district police chief Mohammad Yasin said gunmen halted two vehicles carrying tourists and nabbed the French citizen. Speaking Saturday in a telephone interview, he said it was not immediately clear who was behind the abduction.

And valleys, and stuff like that. And lots of people, including me, would like to visit there and see that if it was reasonably safe.

A family I know recently went to Pakistan for that very reason..

I mean, isn't PAKISTAN on EVERYONE's list of TOP TOURIST DESTINATIONS?!!!

Anthenio Sarsaperla was going to Iran along with five other French nationals, including a woman and two children. The kidnapping took place between Dalbandin and Nokundi area of the district.

Chagai DIG Qazi Hussain Ahmed confirmed the incident, saying the kidnappers spared the five others. He told Dawn on phone that they were travelling without police escort and had not informed the authorities about their journey to Iran.
