Republicans Plan Push to Register Voters
WASHINGTON -- In the coming days, Republicans will step up their push to register 3 million voters this year with the help of an election-year prop -- an 18-wheeler full of computers, plasma TVs and multimedia equipment designed to communicate the GOP message.

Republicans will be taking the truck around the country the week of March 6-13 as part of their plan to register 1 million new voters with the help of local volunteers, elected officials and party leaders in various communities.

Republican national Chairman Ed Gillespie said the idea of the 18-wheeler as a marketing tool was borrowed from private industry, which sometime uses such big vehicles to draw the curious at public events.

"We want to bring new people into the party," Gillespie said, "especially young people and people who are not traditionally Republican voters" such as Hispanics and blacks. He said the GOP voter drive has already registered about 500,000 new voters at various events, including the Daytona 500.

8. Here in TX we don't register as being part of a party, we just register
So am I to assume it won't come here?

I am working voter registration tables in poor, heavily minority neighborhoods all summer. I guess I ain't much next to a big ol' 18 wheeler, but I don't care.

I'll still fight the good fight.

9. This should be a NUMBER ONE priority for Democrats!
We must get out and register voters ourselves! If you don't have the bodies in the pews on election day, you might as well forget it!

I hope the DNC is awake and alert and has major plans for voter registration and GOTV.

10. We democrats could easily co-opt this by doing the following
Watch for the when big rig in our area. (Funny isn't it how they are 'rigging' the election. Has anyone caught that little pun?)

When it is near us. Hire some buses and go through democratic areas, urge unregistered voters to hop on the dem bus, take them to the big rig and let the republicans get them signed up to vote chimpy out of office.

Hell use their big rig against them. It's the perfect co-optation of their scheme. And another beautiful thing about it is if we delivered 3 or four buses of dems to its' doorstep as soon as it opened up. It would actually dealy or prevent repukes from registering at the rig.
