Bush to give 9/11 panel full access
March 9, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush will answer privately all questions raised by a federal commission investigating the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the White House said Tuesday, softening its insistence that Bush's testimony be limited to an hour.

"Nobody's watching the clock," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

Still, he said an hour was "a reasonable period of time to set aside for a sitting president of the United States." The White House and the commission are working on a date for the meeting with Bush. The commission urged Bush to meet with all of its members, not just the chairman and vice chairman.

The shift came after presumed Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry accused Bush of stonewalling investigations of the terrorist attacks and U.S. intelligence failures.

7. What I thought when I read your headline was:
'bush* caves in to General Election frontrunner Kerry pressure'

So, I think no harm was done! :D

8. more time, maybe
but
he will still ONLY speak to the top two guys
not the full panel

jerk

I hope the panel lights a fire under the people
with their report
although you would think'
that the resistance of the administration to cooperate
would be warning enough

byt the way, 'idiot boy' McClellan today
whined about how the WH has given the panel
'everything they have asked for' - bullshit

10. The arrogance of that man
knows no bounds. He seems to think the presidency is a lifetime job. He was hired, more or less, by the citizens of this country and needs to report to us. The lease on our house is just about up and we do not intend to renew it. If I had that man here and now I would slap him up the side of the head so hard they would have to take him to the hospital! Just a smart-ass pseudo cowboy without a brain.

11. Meeting "privately"
Does that mean there won't be a verbatim record of questions and answers by a court reporter available to public scrutiny?

Access to some members only?

14. Okay, guys - RED ALERT! Call your congress-critter about this!
Note my sig line for that TOLL FREE number...

Please notice: they have been progressively worn down on this by complaining from the victims' families and people calling, writing, faxing, and emailing THEIR complaints as well. Constituent reaction. Apparently, bigtime. bush and company wouldn't relent like this if they weren't stumbling all over the increasing and incessant pressure from the public. Apparently enough of us have been making a stink that their hand has been forced, at least this far.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... no time to stop now, 'eh? He DOES INDEED need to give the panel all the time they need and want. He DOES INDEED need to take all their questions and answer them fully. Actually, he DOES INDEED need to do it before the public, and under oath. They'd expect as much from Clinton, wouldn't they? Dammit, if he's going to drape the flag and the shards of the twin towers all over himself in his campaign commercials, and morph himself into "Mr. 9/11," THIS is what comes with it. Just as surely as attending soldiers' funerals comes with the job when you're "commander-in-chief." Even an alleged commander-in-chief.

And none of this will happen without more public pressure. LOTS OF IT. You guys know what to do. You've made a difference already, judging from the evolution of this story.

15. "If the president of the U.S. can find the time to go to a rodeo
he can find the time to do more than one hour in front of a commission that is investigating what happened to America's intelligence and why we are not stronger today," Kerry said.

20. He spent half an hour at the livestock show
Didn't actually make it to the rodeo--they're held at night on weekdays. Since it was a Monday, the stockshow was not very crowded, either. Mostly people who are in the cattle business.

However, he'd already spent some time at a Dallas fundraiser that day. Then went to a Houston fundraiser after his stock show appearance. Along with his merry crew of Delay, Hutchinson, Cornyn & Perry.

And we taxpayers got to pick up part of the bill!

It would be nice if the liberal media noticed how often Bush has flip-flopped.
