Justice Dept. drops abortion record hunt

March 9, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Justice Department is dropping its effort to subpoena abortion records from six Planned Parenthood affiliates as part of the government's defense of a new law barring certain late-term abortions, officials said Tuesday

The Justice Department still is pursuing abortion records -- with names, addresses and other personal information edited out -- to defend the law against similar lawsuits brought by abortion providers in New York and Lincoln, Neb.

The lawsuits seek to invalidate a law signed by President Bush last year that bans a procedure referred to by critics as partial-birth abortion and by medical organizations as "intact dilation and extraction." In these late-term abortions, a fetus' legs and torso are pulled from the uterus and its skull is punctured.

Looks like at least some of the locations (here in SW PA was one) were dropped from this witch-hunt.

Moral of the story: the rule of law and reason still prevails in some instances against wacky witch-hunting fundamentalist activists IF we fight them.

Maybe dropping some of these cases will free up some time for the FBI to locate the Anthrax Assassin. If there are any FBI lurkers here monitoring DU, could you tell us if Ashcroft has let you make any progress in bringing this murdering creep to justice? Thanks in advance.

:tinfoilhat:But, for your Anthrax Assassin....why would they try to find him....he was one of theirs.....ever notice that it only went to the Media talking heads and the Democratic leadership.....it worked....they both rolled over and played dead! What's a few poor postal workers and one ragmag reporter who told the story about JEB Bush's daughter deaths, as long as they can control through fear everyone who could do something , eh? 5. It is an election year

The "Justice" Department is dropping its effort to subpoena these records from the Planned Parenthood affiliates because it is an election year. It is only only backing off because that is the politically correct thing to do at the moment but, if Bush gets a second term, expect the Justice Department to return to its old tricks.

DOJ goes full force on abortion records, Asscrofts God goes full force on Asscrofts pancreas/gall bladder. You think maybe Asscroft was smart enough to put severe abdominal pains and his recent attack on criminalizing abortion together and coming up with 4?

Ashcrofts God works in NOT SO mysterious ways!

I'm wondering if whoever's in charge over at DOJ right now had a little bout of sanity and decided to actually listen to a Federal Judge for a change...
