United Methodist Church Offers Discounts on Prescription Drugs
United Methodist Church Offers Discounts on Prescription Drugs
The Associated Press
Published: Mar 9, 2004

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The United Methodist Church plans to offer free prescription-drug discount cards to its members, and some churches may extend the benefit to other congregations.

Representatives from Methodist churches across the nation voted to offer the discounts during a weekend conference in Nashville. Church members believe they are the first religious denomination to do so.

"We think we're pioneering," the Rev. Mearle Griffith said.

Affordable drugs are particularly important for aging Methodists. The average age of church members is 57 - the oldest of any denomination in the country, Griffith said.

Individual Methodist congregations may open the benefit to members of other churches. DestinationRX requires only that members of other churches register through a United Methodist church.

Yes and you will have to follow their rules or risk losing access to affordable drugs. However, don't worry there will be other church groups with other belief systems, there is sure to be one that you can easily adapt to. Heck I bet the white house will even help the churches they support by sending tax payer money their way. Soon you will choose your faith by the amount of income you have and which drugs you need.

9. Chimpy is nominally United Methodist...
But ignored his denomination's opposition to the invasion of Iraq. Generally, UM's are level-headed & somewhat liberal.

6. Sorry to be a wet blanket on this, but it is church and state? big busines

getting too footsie with each other.

Churches stick to preaching; big business stick to business; and state stick to government - don't mix the two/three.

Bush wants to mix church and state. This is a step in that direction.

10. This is actually just a customer (the church) contracting with a
company (the rx card vendor). Due to the expected volume of subscribers, they were able to get the card at no charge from the vendor. The government is not involved in this transaction. It is similar to the church offering a voluntary dental plan.

12. I have no doubt He would need:
Prozac
Enormous amounts of Aspirin
Caffeine
Prilosec (or any other appropriate drug for irritation of stomach)
Very dark glasses

(to protect His eyes from the religious right wingnuts, and although this is not a drug, it would however be neccesary to relieve the blinding idiotic blindness of the self-righteous.)

15. Methodists - morning after discounts
I'm a Methodist and I'd bet they would discount any drug. Methodists are very open and liberal. Now if you want to talk about discrimination, let's talk Baptist!

Methodists are into family planning.

edit: most protestant denoms run health plans for their employees (clergy and regional and national church officers).

The Rx card for UMC members sounds like an extention of that.
