Senate urges local governments to post 10 Commandments
By RHONDA COOK
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 03/09/04

The Senate voted 42-8 today for a non-binding resolution that urges local governments to post copies of the Ten Commandments in their buildings, even though the federal courts have said that such displays are unconstitutional.

The resolution has no legal effect but puts legislators on record.

The sponsor, Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga), said he proposed the resolution because the commandments were the basis for law and for morality. "It's easy: You're either for it or against it," Mullis said, adding that the only gray involved was the "color of the tablets."

Opponents, primarily Democratic, claimed that the purpose was to use the vote for or against candidates in this year's elections.

2. But senators won't be held accountable for breaking commandments?
Will they?

So what's the point?

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

How hard is that to understand?

4. I'm sure they take an oath,
with right hand raised, "so help me God", to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

#1 - Didn't their votes "bear false witness"?
#2 - Have they not just committed a crime by publicly voting to violate the Constitution of the United States? Shouldn't they be arrested on federal charges?

5. Strange group of senators they've got in Georgia!
Republicans hold a 30-26 majority in the Senate. Six senators did not vote on the resolution.
(snip)

Way to go, Senator Thomas!
"We have spent this whole session seeing who is more religious than others," said state Sen. Nadine Thomas (D-Decatur), who has announced that she is running for the U.S. Senate. "I think it's a bunch of crap."

7. an election year poly to appeal to their base
and a shabby one at that.
So if any local govts take them up on it, just file a major lawsuit and demand equal time as a Hindu, Atheist, etc to have your own plaque put up.
Idiots that do this dont even realize there are 3 VERSIONS of the `0 commandments, the catholic, the jewish and the protestant.
morons.
