Union raises stakes for July - Police group eyes convention boycott
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 08:37 AM by MaineDem
This was the headline on the main page:
Boston police union threatens Democratic convention boycott

Boston's largest police union is asking Democrats nationwide, including presumptive presidential nominee John F. Kerry, to boycott the Democratic National Convention in July, a dramatic escalation of tactics in the union's quest for a contract.

Police union allies across the country have already begun phoning local delegates and party officials, telling them that entering the FleetCenter will be seen as crossing a picket line if Boston police do not have their contract settled by then. Thousands of police from at least nine states and 18 unions are ready to stand beside Boston officers to show their solidarity.

"There will be an expectation that the line not be crossed," Thomas J. Nee, president of the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association, said at a news conference yesterday at the union's Roxbury headquarters. "I know Democrats do not do that. That's the protocol."

I may sound like a broken record on this but I've been through this before with the police unions in Massachusetts. It was GOP dirty trivks then and I'm convinced it is again. Nothing will convince me otherwise. It's going to get very very nasty!

1. I agree. This is GOP backed all the way. Otherwise they would
be boycotting the opponents of unions, would they not? This needs lots of publicity in order to squash it before it happens. I think the GOP is going to try to turn the Dem convention into a bloody fiasco so their's looks good by comparison.

2. This is extortion...
...and more than likely illegal. But since it's to Bush's* advantage and we now live in a lawless nation where the rules apply only to the left...nothing will be done about it.

5. This Particular Boston Police Union Will Be Standing Alone In It's
boycott. The other unions won't join them because they know it is nothing but a political move by the GOP union members.. Most unions realize that president shitferbrains is anti-union and would love to see all unions go bust.

I sincerely doubt this union's goals will be met by their threatened attempt at sabotage..

6. I certainly hope you're right.
Would love to hear from any DU union members on their opinions about this situation...
