Bush wraps up Republican presidential nomination

The Associated Press
Published on: 03/10/04

WASHINGTON -- President Bush wrapped up the nearly nonexistent race for the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday night by pocketing every delegate up for grabs in the four Southern states that held primary elections.

Bush had 1,309 delegates, according to an Associated Press count, eclipsing the 1,255 needed for the nomination on a night when voters in Texas — where Bush was governor — went to the polls.

Bush also captured delegates in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana, one of the few states where he faced token opposition.

As expected, Bush was uncontested in most states that had held GOP primaries or caucuses. Other states canceled their Republican presidential contests.

1. Enter Judge Roy Moore...
Has anyone heard if he's going to try a third-party run for president yet?

That would peel the fundie vote from Bush...
