Bush Reassures Recession-Battered Ohio

You can't write stuff like this. I was considering putting this in the lounge, it's that damned funny.

CLEVELAND - President Bush (news - web sites), trying to reassure recession-battered Ohio about disappearing jobs, said Wednesday his political opponents would pursue a "tired, defeatist" path of higher taxes and less trade.

Speaking in a state that has lost more than 200,000 jobs since he took office, Bush blamed the nation's economic woes on factors beyond his control — a recession that officially started just after his inauguration, business scandals he said were brewing for years, and the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

"Their agenda is to increase federal taxes, to build a wall around this country, and to isolate America from the rest of the world," Bush said on his 15th trip to this critical electoral state.

While the economy is a central issue in the campaign, the White House described Bush's trip as an official visit, meaning taxpayers pick up the costs.

Bush made a 10-minute dash through Thermagon Inc., a small company that makes materials that conduct and disburse heat from computers and other equipment. About 60 percent of Thermagon's products are exported, the White House said.

Bush used a small cloth dampened with a cleaning agent to wipe dust from sheets of plastic. Putty is later applied to the plastic film to draw heat away from electronic equipment. After swiping both sides of a sheet, Bush told workers, "As far as I'm concerned, this is perfectly clean."

2. Is he jealous they might take 2 out of those 3 from the Repub playbook
I thought Buchanan's whole '92 keynotes speech was about building a wall and isolating us from the world. W has been able to do it without a wall.

36. bush* never accepts any blame does he?
"Wasn't me, not my fault!" Sounds like my sons when they were young. So instead of offering solutions to problems he *inherited*,:eyes: he passes the blame. How long will his supporters continue to give him a free pass for things which happened on his watch, which he claims aren't his "fault" that he doesn't address, and refuses to fix? bush* is such a loser! And those who continue to buy into his horse shit are losers as well. He runs around the Country on the taxpayer's dime, blaming all the ills of the past three + years on the previous Administration while offering no solutions. Great campaign platform. If he manages to get re-selected, is he still going to blame everything on the Clinton Administration? Well we all know the success of the Clinton years was due to Reagan/Bush I .....:silly:, so I guess bush*, if he gets a second term can continue to blame Clinton.

43. I never get that argument, anyway
Even IF it were true (it's not, but let's hypothesize) that he inherited all this, so what?

All presidents inherit some kinds of problems.

The question is, "What did you do about the problems you faced ON YOUR WATCH?"

"Did you make things better OR NOT?"

Seems pretty simple to me.

5. The out of work don't want to hear
About how this or that won't work. They want to hear about some positive solutions and a direction to improve things NOW.

So far nothing chimp has done has worked and he isn't offering anything new, just "give it time".
This is the same exact spot his old bastard father was in in 91-92.
There is emerging talk today of an impending economic downturn later in the year (CNN web page economic topics), so there is little hope of any relief for the dunce-in-chief!
Love to see him roast in hell like this.

6. They are WAY off their game when it comes to talking points

"Their agenda is to increase federal taxes, to build a wall around this country, and to isolate America from the rest of the world"

You know, to be honest, if I was out of work in Ohio because of outsourcing, building a protectionist wall around the country would probably sound pretty good to me, personally.

Once again, the Chimp thinks that it's OK if the people have to starve and beg, as long as the CORPORATIONS are healthy. This attitude really comes across in speeches like this, and I can't imagine they are helping Chimpy's numbers one jot.

Keep it up, monkey man!

Bush tells Clevelanders that economy overcoming challenges

CLEVELAND (AP) -- President Bush's declaration Wednesday to a businesswomen's conference that the recession is over did not appease critics who say job loss has crippled the state.
(snip)
Ohio has lost 264,700 jobs since Bush took office. The visit was Bush's 15th in Ohio as president and first since the March 2 Ohio Democratic presidential primary won handily by Sen. John Kerry.
(snip)
About 400 people demonstrated outside Bush's appearance.
About two dozen members of the Sheet Metal Workers Union wore yellow T-shirts and stood in front of a 15-foot inflatable rat balloon emblazoned with sign that said "Jobs Not Bush.

28. "Trying to project empathy for displaced workers"
Too bad he does not have any real empathy....

Trying to project empathy for displaced workers, the president said repeatedly he understood anxiety felt by Americans who are swept up in a changing economy.
...
About 300 protesters demonstrated outside the speech site, just across the street from the stadium where the Cleveland Browns play.

"No more Bush," the protesters chanted. About two dozen members of the Sheet Metal Workers Union wore yellow T-shirts and stood in front of a 15-foot inflatable rat balloon with a sign that said "Jobs Not Bush."

Kerry criticized Bush's economic policies Wednesday, telling an AFL-CIO meeting that "George Bush will fight like hell to keep his own job, but he won't lift a finger to help Americans keep theirs."

Nationwide, 53 percent of registered voters disapprove of the way Bush is handling the economy, while 45 percent approve, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll conducted earlier this month.

16. Ya gotta wonder about the logic behind this….
Bush also issued a direct appeal to Ohio voters not to walk away from the
Republican party over the fact that few jobs have been created in the current
economic recovery. No Republican presidential candidate has been elected without
carrying Ohio.
"In Ohio, you know first-hand the effect of economic change. Manufacturers are
more productive so they aren't creating as many jobs as they used to," Bush
said.

Do you think anyone in the audience even raised an eyebrow in puzzlement while digesting that…..Nahhh…straight over their heads……

Capitalizing on a current of antipathy towards France that has run through the
U.S. in the last couple of years, Bush said U.S. goods can compete anywhere and
pointedly noted that France is now importing California wine. The comment was
met with loud applause and cheers.

Rather….it’s yahoooo…France is buying from us….

Uhhhh…Ohio..California…California…Ohio….uhhh, nevermind….
