Group Sues Government Over Antidepressant
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 5:49 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A consumer advocacy group sued the government Monday, seeking to force a ban on sales of the antidepressant Serzone.

The drug can cause deadly liver failure and is linked to 20 deaths -- and it's impossible to predict which patient is at risk, said the consumer group Public Citizen.

Serzone already has been taken off the market in Canada and Europe, and will quit selling in Australia and New Zealand in May, said Public Citizen's Dr. Sidney Wolfe.

But the agency has maintained that liver failure is a rare risk adequately managed by warning patients. In 2002, the FDA added to Serzone's label the agency's strongest type of warning, one set off by a black box.

Bush would not want to slow down the $$$$ for one of his drug buds.

2. Is Serzone an SSRI?
I know this class of medications help a lot of people, but sometimes the side effects are mind numbing. I would get a little depressed and anxious if I had to worry about taking a med that may make me DEAD!

The list of side effects on meds these days is mind numbing. Sure, get rid of the depression, but you may have to live with incontinence, memory loss, agitation, sleep loss/too much sleep, weight gain, dizziness.

I mean, hell, it's a tough decision!

5. Serzone is a combo of what you say
nonetheless yes, it is an SSRI.

I took this stuff for about 1 month several years ago and it had the "rare" side effect of visual trails. This problem continued several weeks after I quit taking it.

Frankly, it scared the holy shyte out of me! Hell, I'd sue these SOB's for making this stuff if I could.

I took this drug in 1997 - it is nothing new. :grr:
