Provident admits to job cuts, but won't say how many (400-800?)

Provident Financial Group CEO Robert Hoverson told employees in a memo today that some duplicate jobs are expected to be eliminated as the company merges with Cleveland-based National City Corp., but the final number has not yet been determined.

Hoverson was responding to newspaper reports, which cited unnamed sources, that put the number at 400 to 800 job cuts. Cincinnati- based Provident employs a total of about 3,200 employees.

Cleveland-based National City is buying Provident, Cincinnati's second- largest bank holding company, for about $2.1 billion. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter.

The layoff notices don't seem to have slowed down - wonder if we're still on the cusp, anytime now, next quarter, next year, very soon, almost going to happen, really should see them soon - :mad:;
