Pakistani Death Toll Rises In Wana As Fresh Assault Underway
In the previos operation in Wana in the area of Kalusha, the number of Pakistani deaths has risen to twenty two - fifteen reported to be Pakistani Scouts and paramilitary, one Pakistani army soldiers and 6 other unidentified fighters. Thirty one Scouts and army men have also been wounded. As the total scope of the incident is examined, a further rise in the number of deaths can not be ruled out.

Our sources have said that what the government is reporting about the deaths of Mujahideen is blatantly false and that only six were martyred, including two foreigners, not twenty four as previously reported by Pakistani officials.

Nawaiwaqt is also reporting descepancies and say that there has been no proof of the claim that 24 fighters were killed by Pakistanis as the govt. The news agency is claiming that only two bodies have been discovered so far. They also claim that the operation was so intense and caused so much loss to the authorities that it was Pakistanis who stopped the operation to recoup from their losses and reorganize.

Massive numbers of army contingents are mobilizing from Tank and Dera Ismail Khan to Wana. The Pakistan army and paramilitary recovered 10 bodies of their men, while 6 of the bodies of their men are still believed to be in the area of the fighting. All the commercial areas in Wana are closed, as are all roads in an out. Rangers and army personnel have taken hold of the city and no one, including reporters, are allowed near the scene of the fighting. Pakistani forces launched a fresh offensive on Thursday, bringing out heavy guns to flush out Taliban fighters and their Pakistani tribesmen allies hiding in a remote area near the Afghan border. No other details are available at the time of this filing.
