1. This looks really interesting, Vernunft,, but I'm ashamed to confess ...
... that my schoolboy German isn't up to it. Any chance of a translation?

The BBC briefly mentioned that the conservative Polish government was beginning to meet a backlash over the neocons' fiasco in Iraq.

2. Well, a rough, short translation would be that
Polands President showed discontent over having been lied over the issue of WMDs and that there might be a chance of pulling out polish troops before the agreed date in Summer 2005.

It´s basically a slow stepping away from uncoditional support to a more "european" point of view. The polish also might give in to the new EU constitution now. They and Spain were the only ones against it and Spain just got rid of the nay sayer and elected a much more EU friendly government.

3. I just heard on Radio that Italy and S. Korea
are also raising their voices about the mess Bush got all of them into. I wonder how much sleep the "boys" in DC are getting....

5. He just denied any criticism / won't retract troops
Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 06:15 AM by ze_dscherman
He claimed he never intended to criticize Bush, did not feel betrayed about WMDs and will not retract troops "until the situatioan in Iraq has been stabilized". Said he was "misreported" by U.S. journalists.

Did someone yank his chain?

7. Kwasniewski's been bitch-slapped
Article says he denies feeling that Poland had been misled about WMD (even though he was earlier quoted saying exactly that). Also that Bush is going to be speaking with him by phone today. Sounds like Poland's leader is easily intimidated. All the more reason to say, Viva Zapatero!
