Bremer expects "some really bad days" ahead of June 30 transfer date
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/afp/20040319/wl_mideast_afp/iraq_us_bremer_040319164129&e=4

<snip>
"I expect in the run up period to the transition of June 30 that we will have some really bad days," Bremer told reporters.

"The terrorists are going to continue and even accelerate their attacks particularly on Iraqi men women and children as they did in Karbala ... and it happened the night before last here in Baghdad."

In particular, Bremer feared more attacks on Iraq's Shiite Muslim majority by suspected Islamic fundamentalists, suspected of being led by Jordanian militant Abu Mussab Zarqawi who is associated with the Sunni Muslim extremist al-Qaeda group.

"We are concerned that Zarqawi and his people may try major attacks again when you have masses of Shia together again," Bremer said.

1. what about after june 30th?
I'd assume that there will be some pretty bad days *after* June 30th, too.

11. I've been wondering about that
Looks like the script was written long ago. I am not sure why the Bushistas have been so dogmatic about a June 30 transfer date, given the instability in the country.

I guess His Chimperial Higness is hoping to proclaim it "Mission Accomplished" again -- and will keep saying it over and over again, even though stateside we watch Iraq explode into civil war, and regional instability increase.

Does he think it's a win/win thing? -- That when the violence accelerates, it's further proof that we must be on the offensive against terrorism, in say, Syria -- even though it looks like it was Bush's decisions that led to the instability? I guess the news media is going to just drop Iraq from its coverage, and we're supposed to forget what a mess it has become, or that now its THEIR mess.

The beginning of the end of this conflagation will be regime change in the USA in 2004.

17. Yep. What will change after that date? NOTHING
Simply a puppet U.S. government with a new name. And US troops still on the ground as targets.

This is insane.

7. Gee, thanks for the warning!
We'll be prepared for it now, Mr. Bremer. It won't come as a shock and we can take it all in stride. Thank goodness somebody knows what's going on and is in control! </sarcasm>

9. No
a "really bad day" is when you get stuck in traffic, are late for work and the boss is pissed.

Explosions and death are NOT even in the same ballpark. WTF is wrong with this people?

16. Somebody, anybody, please tell me why
the attacks will end on June 30?

I mean, we keep hearing this mantra over and over from the administration and the talking heads: "just get past June 30 and all is well"

WHY for crying fucking out loud?

Because a puppet government is installed???????That's bullshit!!!

All the troops will still be there.

I can't believe anyone is falling for this crap....oh just wait until June 30 and its not our problem anymore?

I'm stupefied.

21. Oooooooooh, okay, now I see
Thanks for clearing that up. :-)

It does seem a bit strange that none of the talking heads even mention that tiny little problem though.....especially with the sElection so near. You would think they would be proud to be able to be so prescient and to do so with such ease.

What am I thinking.....never mind

peace

Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 04:33 PM by beachbum
after Zawahiri & OBL are caught? That is, when and if. They Bush Admin. <edit> will really be singing the song "How Safe America Is Today". <cough cough>

I will be glad when they are caught. They need to be caught, for all those that have died on 9/11. All of their videos and tapes put out by OBL and Zawahiri have done nothing but taunt the families left behind mourning their loved ones that perished. But, we <USA> will really need to have our guard up after those 'figureheads' of al qaieda <sp> are caught.
