German car exports up by more than a half
Source: BBC

German car exports rose by more than a half in March compared with a year earlier, but domestic car sales fell by a quarter, official figures have shown.

Germany exported 419,400 cars in March, while overseas orders for future deliveries were up by more than 28%. However, domestic sales fell by 27% to 295,000 as demand fell due to the end of the country's car scrappage scheme, which closed in September last year. The fall in domestic sales was expected, as the comparative figure for last March was boosted by the scrappage scheme.

Germany is the world's second biggest exporter behind China.

"The mood of the auto industry is brightening appreciably," said Matthais Wissman at the VDA car group that produced the figures. "We won't reach the pre-crisis level again in 2010, but we expect a good export year."

2. If I buy something other than a car with US name, it will be German
Most likely would be BMW, But Mercedes has some nice wheels too.

Chrysler which is what I have bought for years has little to offer. I don't care for the 300 and that leaves the Sabering and PT cruiser. Not much offering there.

I like the looks of the new Buick but damn, once you put the features you want on it, $$$. Might as well buy the BMW and have some fun driving.

The Lincoln is damn nice too, but again $$$$.

Value of ownership, the German cars win hands down.

3. The rise is in EXPORTING cars from Germany ...

... the cars BMW and Mercedes build in the south are amongst the worst in quality, especially for the Mercedes. My family has the new Buick Lucerne and crossovers and never, absolutely NEVER a problem with them.
