Bill to strike (Calif.) state law aimed at "curing" gays moves forward
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

An Assembly committee approved a bill today that would remove a section of state code that identifies homosexuality as a sexual deviation, equates it to child molestation and asks for research into its "causes and cures."

It took awhile to get the bill out of the Public Safety Committee, however, as several legislators declined to cast a vote on the measure.

At issue is a 60-year-old section of the Welfare and Institutions code that directs the state Department of Mental Health to "plan, conduct and cause to be conducted scientific research into the causes and cures of sexual deviation, including deviations conducive to sex crimes against children, and the causes and cures of homosexuality, and into methods of identifying potential sex offenders."

... The bill's passage seemed like a slam dunk, but several assemblymen abstained from the vote, including Danny Gilmore, R-Hanford (Kings County) and Anthony Portantino, D-La Canada Flintridge (Los Angeles County). Portantino expressed concern that the parts dealing with sex offenders would be stricken by the proposed law.

7. antiquated laws tend to stay on the books long past their usage
when i was a cop in mass, we still has laws against

1) blaspheming the name of god
2) adultery

and my favorite

3) malicious mischief in an orchard on a sunday

none of which were enforced obviously.

up until recently, in WA state, we had a law criminalizing "defaming a woman"

lol

obviously, this law in cali should be repealed, though.

2. Someone should check to see who authored the bill 60 years ago.
And who the expert witnesses they used to support the bill.

Probably one of Reagan's buddies was the author.

Ha, just what California needs after the budget crisis of the last year, wasted legislature pay on some truly Moranic attempt to cure teh gayz.

Oh well, it won't go anywhere. If they have that much time on their hands that they can just sit around trying to figure out how to "straighten" out Californian homosexuals they really should be fired for various fraud, waste, and abuse ethical violations as well as sincere concerns that mentally handicapped people somehow got elected to important decision making positions.

I'm all about empowering people who are developmentally behind, but this is just too much.

Edit to add- I am a moran. Never mind.

Please disregard my very silly post. It's been a very long, uncomfortable day and I didn't sleep much last night. I've been on a roll tonight.

I love when heterosexuals (no offense) try to tell all the homosexuals about, well, everything.

Bugger off!

Homosexuals have been around for thousands of years...quit telling us that you
know all about being homosexual, when you are heterosexual.

Thanks.

And go away...I've got work to do, taxes to pay, a home to take care of, and tons of other stuff.
