This news just breaking. I think Sky News quoted Reuters as origin. Medvedev quoted as saying it would be another Afghanistan. Link is Sky's LBN page so may change.

1. Though as they say in the story, and the BBC headlines, Bakiyev just wants a safety guarantee
Kyrgyz President Bakiyev 'will resign if safe'

Kyrgyzstan's ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has said he will be willing to step down in return for security guarantees for him and his family.

Mr Bakiyev fled to the south of the country following last week's uprising.

The interim government has yet to give a response to his offer. Its leaders held a late-night meeting in Bishkek, the capital, but made no announcement.
...
The interim leaders have lifted Mr Bakiyev's immunity and say they will arrest him if he refuses to surrender.

Which doesn't sound like imminent civil war to me.

5. That wasn't what happened
The BBC added mention of this only when they updated their link 11 hours or so after the first announcement, yesterday mid-day, about Bakiyev stepping down under cetain conditions.

12. In the same place as Bush-McCain
Trying to reverse the damage done by those "color revolutions" to the immediate Russian neighborhood.
And he is quite successful at that.

Ukraine - check,
Kyrgyzstan - check,
Georgia - check with a nice little war, Saakashvili is shaking with fear from his presidential palace.

So pretty much Putin neutralised all the recent PNAC developments in the Russian strategic surrounding.

4. Sounds like a good place for our Tea-bagger friends
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 09:10 PM by Beavker
to take up residence. Along with Haiti, Somalia, and other countries that lack a 'strong central guvmint'. You and your buddies can take your guns and take the place over. All the decent places to live in modern society have strong central governments, and people are generally happy. The only places left for you are shit holes. If you want a weak central government that looks to religion, try Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or...wait...you hate those guys too don't you? You're screwed. I see why you fight so hard for this country. Not because you love it's freedom. Because it's the only place worth a shit that will have your asses!

Sorry, got off the subject and went all Maverick on the Tea baggers.

of Muslims and other faiths. Only that the majority of the population are apparently Sunni Muslims.
