"Sidestep" Schaffer To Run For Colorado Senate Seat
Look's like break for the Dems and a fun campaign to follow.

<snip>
"Obviously, if there is going to be this matchup between Salazar and Schaffer, this will be the best chance Democrats have to capture a Senate seat in November," Sabato said Thursday.

1. Ha!!
"...a race that political experts have called a toss-up despite Colorado's GOP-leaning electorate."

Toss-up, my left marble. This is the best news Colorado Dems have had since... well, since.... actually, it's been a good week! ;)

2. Colorado
I have a friend that lives in Denver. He and his wife are pagans. There are a lot of free thinkers in Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, etc. that are becoming more politically active this year. I think that Colorado could be a toss up. The main thing is that the traditional conservatives will stay away from the polls this year because of *, we may be surprised by the gains we make this year.

4. Best chance?
With Colorado's conservative tilt and what happened to Strickland the last go round, I hope Salazaar is not our "best chance" at a senate pickup. I would think Obama in Illinois is far more likely to be a pickup due to Illinois' liberal tilt.

8. You can't ignore the name recognition, though
for Salazar, especially out here on the Western Slope. Both Salazars are 5-generation Colorado natives, and friends of agriculture and the environment; I know a lot of Republicans who like them -- they come off as kind of moderate.

Especially if the far right stays home.
