WASHINGTON (NBC NEWS) - An annual look at congressional spending for individual projects was released Wednesday in Washington.
Congressmen, including senators John McCain of Arizona and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, joined Citizens Against Government Waste for the release of their "Pig Book 2010."
The book lists government earmarks, which are projects that designate money for individual members to use back in their home districts.
The group's president says there's been improvement, but more needs to be done.
"There's a little bit of good news for taxpayers: earmarks are reduced from fiscal year 2009. The 2010 congressional Pig Book shows 9,129 projects which is a 10.2 percent decrease in the 10,160 in the fiscal year 2009, and $16.5 billion in earmarks, which is a 15.5 percent decrease from the $19.6 billion in FY 2009. So while it's good news, it's still above the historical average, and it's still not at the level that President Obama promised when he took office, which is $7.8 billion," said Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste.

I wonder if Bush's two-tillion dollar invasion of Iraq will be listed, not to mention his hundred-billion dollar bailout of the banks and Wall Street.
