Dead man elected mayor of Tennessee town

By Agence France-Presse
Thursday, April 15th, 2010 -- 1:15 pm

'If he were to run again next week I'd vote for him again'

A dead man was elected mayor of a small Tennessee town eager to oust a woman who'd been appointed to the job after the previous mayor died, local media reports.

Carl Robin Geary Sr., a local alderman known for "straight-talk" and always wearing overalls, was a candidate for mayor when he died of a heart attack on March 10.

He defeated incumbent Barbara Brock 268 votes to 85 in the town of Tracy City's election on Tuesday, the Chattanooga Times reported Friday.

"If he were to run again next week I'd vote for him again," Chris Rogers, owner of the town's Lunch Box restaurant, told the paper.

9. The major difference between a dead guy and Ashcroft being that Ashcroft could do a lot more harm
than the dead guy.

Thanks. I think I'm beginning to see the upside of voting for a dead guy.

4. Brock claiming it was a 'good old boy' network that ousted her
makes me kinda curious about what those changes were that she made that prompted them to elect a dead candidate over her.

12. I was laughing yesterday about
how much they hate Brock, Geary's signs were still up everywhere.

I know his family. Much beloved person.

Brock? Thinks she can bully citizens in Appalachia into giving her what she wants.

She wants to "prettify" the town and get all sorts of grants to make it acceptable to picky tourists, but the citizens of that town need jobs. The kids and the elderly need grants for job training, transportation, education, dental and medical and mental health care. If she wants to help the citizens, she needs to focus on their needs, not on the needs of tourists.

Once the locals' needs are met, they can open businesses that will bring in tourism.

I think she just wants to move all the poor locals out and gentrify the place. But it was fine the way it was.

Rough around the edges but absolutely distinct, a place where you could let your kids run around and the cops would not harrass them mercilessly.

The Beloved Old Police Chief's motto: That None Live In Fear ( and he meant of the cops, too). Brock fired him.

Then started doing speed traps (how original!) to make money.

Says she wants to "Get rid of drugs in the town" which is Code for: "Feed all the jobless local kids into the Prison machine so i don't have to think about them."

Can't wait to see who really wins.

7. And he lost an election to a dead man once.
One time he even shot a guy in the face, while he was vice president. He also very un-cothly used the F word, which one would think he'd have higher maners than doing, being the vice prez and all.

10. Yet the media calls it "pulling a Biden."
Saying to Obama "This is a fucking big deal" when you think no one else can hear is nothing like saying directly to Leahy on the Senate floor to go fuck himself.

But, does the media call dropping an F bomb "pulling a Cheney?" Noooooo. Of course not. They wait until a Democrat gets caught saying it and it's now "pulling a Biden."

I guess they're still waiting for a Democrat to get so drunk that he shoots a friend in the face before they name that one.
