Afghans 'abused at secret prison' at Bagram airbase

Afghan prisoners are being abused in a "secret jail" at Bagram airbase, according to nine witnesses whose stories the BBC has documented.

The abuses are all said to have taken place since US President Barack Obama was elected, promising to end torture.

The US military has denied the existence of a secret detention site and promised to look into allegations.

Bagram was the site of a controversial jail holding hundreds of inmates, who have now been moved to another complex.

At the end of the story, a Vice Admiral goes on record denying the secret jail exists. Remember that one's name: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/bios/navybio.asp?bioid=338">Robert S. Harward.

Edited to add: :wow: at the Vice Admiral's bio. Commanded Task Force K-Bar.

4. Blair, Gates, McChrystal, Petraeus, they've all been involved
with abuse, torture and murder. They are nothing to write home about.

6. Bagram is the other gitmo.
Indefinite detentions, secret evidence, no access to lawyers and harsh conditions.

8. I don't know whether to believe this story but I donate monthly automatically to
Amnesty International. The modest monthly donation doesn't take care of my conscience, but it's something. It's not nothing.

I don't have to do a thing and AI does not have to do much. It goes right onto my credit card and AI sends me a statement every month. (I wish they wouldn't. They don't need to spend that money sending statements to me and other donors.)

I don't know what else to do anymore.
