U.S.: No Charges in Florida Boot Camp Death

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Federal officials will not pursue civil rights violations or other charges against the boot camp employees implicated in the videotaped death of a 14-year-old who was hit and kicked by guards while a nurse looked on, the Justice Department said Friday.

Despite a lengthy investigation, prosecutors could not establish that the seven guards and the nurse willfully deprived Martin Lee Anderson of his civil rights, the department said, and the probe has been closed.

“They have all the evidence in the world and still no one is held accountable,” said Ben Crump, an attorney for the teen’s parents.

A tragedy in Bay County, Florida. There was no justice for Martin Lee Anderson.

"A travesty of justice in Bay County, Florida.

At 6:30 in the morning on June 5, 2006, Martin Lee Anderson is admitted to boot camp.

At 9:06 am the use of force begins.

At 9:45 am the paramedics take Martin Lee Anderson

At 1:00 pm he was transported by air to Pensacola to the hospital where he died the next day.

The guards who beat him were just acquitted as was the nurse who stood by."

Martin Lee Anderson's mom said the guards and lawyers laughed and joked during the trial.

“It seems like to me if you look at everything like I was paying attention to it, it was like for the whole three weeks it was a joke to the lawyers and to the defendants. That's the way I felt. They were laughing and joking around because they already knew they were going to walk off and that's what happened.”

and what took them so long?

My colleague is working on a documentary about this. No justice for this young man, damnit.

He said the federal officials invited Anderson’s relatives to discuss the decision directly with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. in Washington, D.C., “and that’s our next stop.”

“It’s not over,” said Gina Jones, the boy’s mother. “It’s not closed and I’m going to make sure it stays open. That was my baby. There was no reason to be beaten like that.”(end)



They would of had to prove their intent was willful, gee, I wonder what else you could call it when they shoved ammonia capsules
in his nose.

He was sent to boot camp for breaking probation on a charge of joy riding in his grandmother's car. Death sentence, apparently.

Can everyone write their Senator and ask them to get involved?

BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!! No one is accountable for this death? The life of this 14-year old was not important? While it's not the same I hope they will pursue civil damages.

They can do no wrong. Why is that?

Even after it's on tape. Corruption on every level. The judge should be thrown in jail. They too are complicit now in this young man's death.

Florida is still a part of the South, I guess.
