David Iglesias, ousted Bush-era U.S. attorney, joins prosecution team at Guantanamo
Source: miami herald

ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md — For hearings on whether U.S. forces tortured confessions out of a Canadian teenager accused of killing an American soldier in Afghanistan, the Pentagon Monday unveiled a new face to advocate military commissions:

Fired former Bush-era prosecutor David Iglesias, a key figure in the so-called Attorney-Gate scandal. He was mobilized last year to the war court as a U.S. Navy Reserves captain.

Iglesias, a Panama-born Republican, served as George W. Bush's U.S. attorney for New Mexico during the Justice Departments of both John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzales.

But in 2006 he was one of eight U.S. attorneys abruptly dismissed, triggering a high profile Congressional probe over whether the regional federal prosecutors were let go not for performance issues but because they would not time indictments and investigations favorably for the GOP at election time.

Monday, Capt. Iglesias was part of a Pentagon prosecution team going to Guantanamo for up to two weeks of hearings on which, if any, of Omar Khadr's confessions cannot be presented to a jury at his summertime trial.

1. He may or may not be a Republican, but he was fired for refusing to bring a
frivolous criminal prosecution against a Democrat, just to damage him in an election campaign against Domenici's "protege." So, Iglesias has principles, to the extent of losing his job and damaging his career.

Respect.

2. Iglesias was courageously honest in standing up against Bush administration --
trust he will also be doing the right thing in these cases --!!

3. He seemed to have some integrity in a party devoid of it!
I respect what he did in this case.

5. Saddest chapters in US and Canadian history
Unfortunately, Canadians still have a Konservative Bush lapper in office as Prime minister. He has steadfastly refused any repatriation back home like other western nations have with their own citizens like England and Australia.

A fifteen year old boy taken off the battlefield, held without trial and tortured for almost half of his previous life (7 years). For what?

Did Omar Khadr kill a US soldier?

We don't know. Omar stands accused of several crimes, the most serious of which is the murder of Sgt. F.C. Christopher Speer by throwing a grenade. There are, however, good reasons to doubt the prosecution's version of events. To start, no one actually saw Omar throw the grenade. In February 2008, written eyewitness testimony revealed that not only was there another combatant alive when Speer was killed, but also said that this person was the one who threw the grenade. Worse, this testimony was later altered by the US military in what has been called a blatant attempt to make the case against Omar stronger.

Even if he was the one that threw a grenade. HE WAS IN A WAR ZONE WITH SOLDIERS TRYING TO KILL HIM! Isn't that an act of war and not a "terrorist" act?

Shame shame shame
