Ron Kirkland, GOP House Candidate Says 'Gays Were Taken Care Of' When He Served In The Military

Tennessee Republican congressional candidate Ron Kirkland recently said that when he served in the military during the Vietnam War, gay service members "were taken care of" in ways that he could not begin to describe.

Kirkland's candid remarks came at a Tea Party forum last week when the GOP hopeful criticized the Obama administration's support for overturning the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

Conservative House candidate Randy Smith offered a similar reaction to the measure at the event when he declared he "wouldn't want to share a shower with a homosexual."

The Associated Press reports:

Kirkland, a Vietnam veteran, said of his time in the military: "I can tell you if there were any homosexuals in that group, they were taken care of in ways I can't describe to you." Smith, who served in the first Iraqi war, added: "I definitely wouldn't want to share a shower with a homosexual. We took care of that kind of stuff, just like (Kirkland) said."

took you. There were gays in the service. I am an "Era" vet and there was a gay guy in the barracks, and everybody knew it and there was never an incident of any kind. Racial tension had more impact than anything. I know the job of the Basic training DIs was to run everybody into the ground so mercilessly you didn't care who was handing you a canteen.

I can understand pandering to your base and saying you won't repeal DADT but by talking about gay men being physically harmed like it's A-okay...not cool.

And after making his comments, Kirkland grabbed his quill pen and scrolls. Blew out the candle he had on his wooden desk. Grabbed his whip. Climbed on his horse with the help of his slaves and rode away fearing an assault from the Spartans was imminent.

that he "took care" of them. Probably invited them to share his bunk, and then denied that he ever knew them. I've never served in the armed forces, but everyone I've talked to, or, heard about, has said that when you are under fire, the only thing that you care about, is if you can count on your team mates to cover your ass, and help fight.

Gays are NOW in military lawfully, including in military showers. Troops of all genders are already lawfully showering with gays, as long as the gays remain willing to lie. That is what DADT meant and continues to mean So, these objections about showering with gays are about 20 years too late.

The only issue now is whether the law will continue to require gays in the military to lie, to bear false witness against themselves.

When you state the issue accurately, no argument against repeal of DADT makes any kind of sense, even to a homophobe. Think about it. Then again, homophobes don't think on this issue; they simply react.

When I was in the Air Force, I'd heard of only one instance when someone said they'd been physical with a gay. However it was a man stating that he and some friends sexually assaulted a female while they were stationed in Germany because she wouldn't date any of them, so their stupid logic was obviously she was a lesbian.

I don't know how true that 25 year old story was but I was so offended I reported the prison worker when he wasn't wearing a military uniform as a senior NCO military policeman to the office of special investigations. Freakin prick.

Worked with gays. Showered with gays. Secure with your sexuality = no big deal.

Kirtland and Smith probably "took care of that kind of stuff" when they were alone in the rack at night. LOL
