Tucson City Council votes to sue Ariz. over immigration law

The City Council voted 5-1 to sue the state to overturn SB 1070, the controversial immigration law that requires local police to verify the status of those they "reasonably suspect" are here illegally.

Councilman Steve Kozachik voted against the suit. Kozachik said the law is clearly flawed and presents enforcement problems, but he voted not because we "need to de-escalate the conversation," and a lawsuit runs counter to that goal.
