GOP candidates' flight (with Karl Rove) probably broke law
Source: Fresno Bee

Two Valley Republican congressional candidates likely violated federal election law when they traveled in late March on a corporate aircraft owned by a prominent west-side farming company.

State Sen. Jeff Denham of Atwater, who is seeking the Republican nomination in the 19th Congressional District, and Hanford cherry farmer Andy Vidak, who is seeking the GOP's nod in the neighboring 20th District, traveled on a plane owned by Harris Farms.

Also on the plane was political guru Karl Rove -- the longtime confidant of former President George W. Bush -- who visited Fresno in late March to tout his new book and stump for Fresno County Supervisor Debbie Poochigian.

Vidak said he was on the flight along with Harris Farms CEO John Harris, Denham, Rove and two Rove aides. The flight went from Fresno to the East Bay, where Rove and his two aides disembarked, and then to Harris Ranch near Coalinga.

When briefed on the details of the flight, two federal election law experts said Denham and Vidak apparently violated the law. It has been on the books since September 2007, when Bush signed the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act. Among other things, the act made it illegal for House candidates to fly on corporate jets.

2. the republicans are just a criminal organization
I can't believe that they casually break so many laws daily. It's as though that is their only reason to exist is to break laws.

3. Damn, I hate to see this.
Harris Ranch has a good local reputation as a resort and as a purveyor of quality food. I'd hate to have to boycott them for being involved in Republican politics/corruption.

15. Folks, this is a hard one to call. Denham is the only thing preventing RICHARD POMBO from taking it.
You all remember Richard Pombo, I'm sure. The guy who proposed selling off a quarter of the national forests to loggers and mining companies, one of the primary backers of ANWR drilling, and a man who was labeled one of the worst men in Congress by Rolling Stone magazine, who later flat out called him "an enemy of the Earth". The guy was also corrupt to the core, and eventually pissed off his own Republican base so badly that they threw him out of office.

Pombo moved from the 11th to the 19th recently, and has launched a new campaign to get back into Congress by running for Radanovich's chair (he's retiring). Pombo has some big money backers and is running an absolutely vicious campaign. The only thing standing in his way is Jeff Denham, and the public accusation that Pombo is carpetbagging his way into Congress.

I despise Republicans, but lets be honest here. The 19th was created as a Republican stronghold district, and no Democrat has come close to winning it in the last half century. There aren't even any Democrats running campaign ads across most of the district right now (I live in the 19th, and haven't seen a single Democratic ad yet). Whoever wins the Republican primary will probably take the district this fall.

I don't like Denham, and supported the Dump Denham campaign a couple of years ago, but he is BY FAR the lesser of two evils in this campaign.
