Obama Orders BP To Give Daily Updates On Cleanup
Source: Huff Post

The Obama administration directed more fire against BP last night, ordering it to provide daily updates on its efforts to contain the spill and to stop the use of a toxic chemical dispersant to break up the slick.

The White House said it expected the oil company to post daily updates on its website. "We think that is what the company owes, again, both us and the American people, as we work through our response and as the public has questions about their operations," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Why isn't he getting daily reports already? It's been a month!

2. Maybe he is but this bit is for the public.
Still, a mistake. As if BP can be trusted to give updates anyone will believe. The administration should be doing this.

18. You're joking, right? Please tell me you're joking. This is not kicking ass or taking names. BP
will give false reports that drastically lowball the true nature of all the damage, and Obama and the government will take their word for it, and continue to leave BP in charge of this—disaster isn't even the word for it.

Actually "kicking ass and taking names", as you put it, would be for Obama to formally declare a national emergency, enlist the aid of any foreign entities that could help, and bring all the proper scientists and authorities who could actually help in on the effort. Rather than letting BP personnel chase journalists and scientists away from the area, it would involve mobilizing the military to take control over the site from BP personnel, and making it known to those BP personnel that you were ordering your military to shoot any of them who make any attempt to interfere with cleanup efforts or personnel. It would be having the Justice Department begin proceedings to place the proper BP authorities on trial for criminal negligence, for starters, and also bringing the wrath of God down on whatever Federal agencies knew BP was cutting all these corners and lett them get away with it. It would be fining BP something like 5 or 10 billion dollars for every day the fucking Oil Volcano isn't stopped.

That's just for starters.

Obama gets in a zinger at a press conference—somehow apparently equating that with Buford Pusser going to work with his baseball bat (how they see the same spirit at work mystifies me)—that you never can tell. So I took the opportunity anyway.

Have a splendid day!

30. Well, the corps pretty much run this administration...
... so he'd need to get permission from BP to take over. And even if they gave him permission, they'd just tell him what to do anyway. So it really wouldn't change anything.

I agree with you, though. If we had a government that wasn't a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate America, I'd want them to assume control of a calamity like this.

8. What a joke.
WTF is really going on with the dispersant? One day the EPA tells BP to use less toxic stuff, the next day they say nevermind.

Obama says stop using dispersant altogether? Which story is correct?

This is a clusterfuck!

19. I've said myself they ought to be waterboarded, with crude oil substituted for water. Then
when that gets boring, simply hold their heads under oil till they stop struggling. The only thing I can't decide on is which public place to string up their worthless carcasses as a warning.
