Insurgents kill 11 police in day of unrest in Iraq

BAGHDAD, March 23 (Reuters) - Insurgents shot dead 11 Iraqi police and police trainees in two separate, daylight attacks on Tuesday, the latest deadly strikes against Iraqis working with the U.S.-led occupation.

Near Hilla, south of Baghdad, gunmen in a red Opel car opened fire on a minibus carrying policemen and recruits to work, killing nine and wounding at least two others on board, local police chief Major Kadhim Ajmi told Reuters.

At almost the same time, two police officers were shot and killed and two others were injured in a drive-by shooting near the oil-rich northern city of Kirkuk, police said.

And in Mosul, Iraq's third largest city in the far north of the country, a mortar attack on an Iraqi military base killed two Iraqi civilians and wounded six, local officials said.

2. Do you still think Bush will pull out his troops June 30th. I forsee a
dog and pony show in which the troops will stay in Iraq for many years.

4. There was/is no plan to pull our people out
of Iraq after the "governing" of Iraq is handed over to the Iraqis.
That does seem to be a common misconception. In fact the current Bush plan involves 14 permanent bases and at least 100,000 troops in Iraq thru 2006.

3. look at the progress
in Iraq! /sarcasm

We must be doing really especially wonderful things in order for them to respond in this manner.

I am so sorry for the Iraqi people - their country is descending deeper into chaos each day.

6. Hey, colonialism is a long hard slog. It takes time to destroy an
ancient culture and replace it with KFC and Burger King.

7. The terraists must be "desperate"
Because we all know that once the govmint is handed over to the "Iraqis" on July 1, peace and prosperity and democracy and nirvana will flourish and the terraists will all shrivel up and die, because freedom will crush them like crickets under a boot.

Right? I mean, that's what BushCo says, so it must be true.
