Analysis: Iraq Charges Against Bush Begin to Mount
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040323/pl_nm/security_bush_charges_dc&cid=615&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Criticism of President Bush (news - web sites)'s motives and decision-making in attacking Iraq (news - web sites) last year may be acquiring critical mass with voters following criticism by former top counterterrorism official Richard Clarke.

Political consultants and analysts said Clarke's allegation that Bush ignored the al Qaeda threat before the Sept. 11 attacks and was obsessed by a desire to invade Iraq were especially damaging because they confirmed other previous revelations from policy insiders.

"Each of these revelations adds to the others so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and the message gets reinforced with voters," said Richard Rosecrance, a political scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Before Clarke, there was former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, who asserted in a book published in January that Bush began laying the groundwork for an attack on Iraq from the moment he took office.

Then came the bombshell from former weapons inspector David Kay that the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction that Bush launched the war to find and destroy probably did not exist.

I especially enjoyed seeing the terms "war president" and "war on terrorism" in quotes, since they are bogus in the context of Bush.

I gave it a 5. Currently 4.55, 107 votes. Freepers have found it obviously. Need more 5's, folks.

14. Holy crap, Batman
The administration response has usually been to try to destroy the reputations of its critics. It suggested O'Neill had illegally used classified documents and said he was motivated by sour grapes after having been forced to resign from the Cabinet. A Treasury probe has cleared him of misusing documents.

Similarly, White House aides said Clarke was bitter about having been denied a promotion and "out of the loop" in the administration. They also said he was a closet Democrat working as a proxy for Bush's presidential opponent, John Kerry.

"This administration has shown a tremendous ability to demonize its opponents. But at some point, people start to ask themselves, could all these people be pathological liars? At some point, they can't all be liars," said Democratic consultant Michael Goldman.

Just when I was getting used to living in bizarro world, an article comes out that slams the truth home without apology. Imagine that, an article that analyzes how the admin's actions and words contradict each other, but most importanly, their consistent M.O. of answering critics by use of the politics of personal destruction.

15. 4.52 with 149 votes. Bushies are on the defensive again
Listening to the wingnut talk shows, I here nothing but attacks on Clarke and nothing positive about the Bush campaign. They have to answer the attacks and not sell their man. They are not in control. If we can keep them in that mode all summer the media will not be able to help with the Bush campaign.

21. Pretty damned damning.
What struck me most from this article (well, I take that back - EVERYTHING struck me, but...) was this from David Kay, of all people:

Kay on Tuesday warned that U.S. credibility at home and abroad was in grave danger and urged the Bush administration to own up to its intelligence failures.

"We are in grave danger of having destroyed our credibility internationally and domestically with regard to warning about future events," he said. "The answer is to admit you were wrong, and what I find most disturbing around Washington ... is the belief ... you can never admit you're wrong."

Holy Smokes! This is from David "the Sycophant" Kay. David "oh, yeah, I'm gonna find ALL those WMDs and MORE" Kay. David Kay who was supposed to be their Supreme Point Man on this subject. Heck, I can even remember stories linked here at DU last year that "leaked" advance stuff from Kay, from third party sources supposedly saying that - "just wait til David Kay reports back. It's going to be devastating." At the time, they were saying it was going to be "devastating" to war opponents. Now, it seems "devastating" can be applied differently.

By the way - at the risk of ad-nauseam-ing you...

LET THE MEDIA KNOW! SOME MEDIA. ANY MEDIA. PICK even just ONE of these. Or PICK SEVERAL. As compiled by fellow DUer bigtree:

Use the responses to strike back at the attacks, here and elsewhere.

26. Charges Against Bush
"This administration has shown a tremendous ability to demonize its opponents. But at some point, people start to ask themselves, could all these people be pathological liars? At some point, they can't all be liars," said Democratic consultant Michael Goldman.

-----------
Finally this corrupt administration is being called for what it is, a lying bunch of crooks to paraphrase Kerry. And it's their own turning against them that's making it stick. Paul O'Neil and Richard Clark really helped out their country by exposing these criminals.

29. Wow! this is a really damning article!!
I think it takes writing like this to help a lot of the public put things together--the overall picture that Clarke, O'Neil, Kay, et al paint is not a set of isolated stories but evidence of the true nature of this adminsitration. This isn't an opinion piece, but the writer even points out that it's the Bushies' practice to smear the reputations of their critics! My god, truth at LAST about Bush, I can hardly believe it!
