House Republicans plan online community (americaspeakingout.com), to find a voice and set the tone

Source: Washington Post

House Republicans will unveil on Tuesday a Web site they will use to solicit policy ideas from the public, the first step in the development of a platform that they will present to voters this fall.

Called "America Speaking Out," the site borrows from the approaches of popular Web sites such as Wikipedia and Amazon.com. Starting this week, people will be able to go to http://www.americaspeakingout.com, submit ideas, rate those of others, and post their comments on Facebook and Twitter through the site.

The most prominent users will earn "badges," though the GOP has not yet determined what rewards people could get. House Republicans also will go on the site and interact with users. Up to a dozen staff members will be monitoring the Web site, party aides said, both to keep it running properly and to filter out inappropriate messages.

4. Sounds like they want to be HuffPo.
Badges are so silly...quite a few people on HuffPo w/lots of badges are just a bunch of bullying postwhores.

5. "Up to a dozen staff members... to filter out inappropriate messages."
"Inappropriate" being anything the House Republicans don't want to publicly get behind.

6. Let me guess
The Republicans will go through this dog and pony show so they can claim that their new 'contract' was created by the people. What will this document say. No new taxes, lower taxes for the top 5%, smaller government, less regulation, pro big oil and corporations in general, anti-abortion, pro-gun, pro- certain forms of the Christian religion, etc. Gee sounds just like the same crap they have been running on since I would say at least Goldwater.

11. Remind them that Christ said pay your taxes and honor those in
authority over you. Give to the poor and to treat others as you would have them treat you. I bet the site will go down after that posting.

12. Year and a half ago
we had this big email from our new White House asking us for opinions on what we should do as a country and even inviting us to volunteer.

I responded with what I thought were the problems, like jobs being outsourced by greedy industries and transportation being driven by money rather than service. I even offered to help with the broadband stuff, being retired and wanting to stay involved. You know, maybe keep putting something back into the pot.

Anyway, long story short, got a response says thanks and to send money. Then all the corporate interests were invited in for their big parties and I have a sweatshirt.

Good, let them have a piece of this hope.

15. Checked out the site: my favorite
suggestion:

"Proud GOP legislators in VA and GA have proposed analmicrochip bans to prevent BIG GOVERNMENT mind control. We need to follow through to prevent Obama-thugs from controlling our minds and polluting our precious fluids."

I wonder which is weirder - the suggestion, the fact that it has more support than non-support, or that no one so far has picked up that it has to be a complete goof ( precious fluids is a bit from Dr. Strangeglove purity of essence).

20. speak out
I am having enormous difficulty to get anything to work on their website; but, <http://democraticunderground.com> is nearly as bad: nothing that I have attempted to submit to speak out has worked, & I do wish that everyone would convert to wiki.

I had attempted to respond to someone about "polymer exchange membrane", which has 49,400 google results.

Like virtually everything else, that message did not work; the only item that has worked is the registration.

But, more important, right now, Barry Obama says "just plug the damn hole"; I agree with him.

But, to paraphrase Jim Carville, Harry Shearer, Keith Olbermann,.... the President should have spent more time down there, possibly moving, temporarily, to the coast.

I do not know why these had been in my speak out registration:

You can't see a single thread. I can't wait to read what the wingnuts write about "American Values - Protecting those things we hold dear."
