Legendary broadcaster Art Linkletter is dead at 97
Source: CNN

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Art Linkletter, the easygoing, smooth-voiced emcee famed for his long-running hosting gigs of the radio and television shows "House Party" and "People Are Funny," and author of "Kids Say the Darndest Things," has died, according to his spokeswoman.

Linkletter "died peacefully at home with his family on Wednesday," a statement from the family said. He was 97.

--

At its height, Linkletter's fame was notable enough to make him part of Milton Bradley's "Game of Life," which featured Linkletter's endorsement and his photo on the game's $100,000 bill. His 1960 biography was called "Confessions of a Happy Man."

--

Linkletter is survived by his wife of 75 years, Lois, and two daughters, Dawn Griffin and Sharon Linkletter.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

All my childhood entertainers are going away. Had to highlight the "Game of Life" mention. Didn't realize the tragedy that he went through over the years.

R.I.P.

4. I thought that too. An interesting site: "Find a Grave":
http://www.findagrave.com/index.html

You could spend some time here looking up various names. It doesn't have Art Linkletter yet, but it does show he outlived 2 (I don't know if that is all) of his kids.

5. I always liked him, used to watch him as a little kid, was really funny. I'm glad
he "died peacefully at home with his family..."

Yeah, I know well what you mean, "All my childhood entertainers are going away." I try not to think about it too much, but each time I say to myself, there goes another one I liked and watched.

7. I grew up listening to him on the radio. TV had not come to my territory at that time.
I loved People are Funny and especially the segment "kids say the darnedest things". Also "Queen for the Day", "Gangbusters", "The Shadow", "Hopalong Cassidy" and "The B-Bar-B with The Golden Palamino" Those were much slower times..

8. You would love my oldies internet site I listen to all of the time.
Many of your childhood shows/like mine are broadcast. www.live365.com. Go "Oldies" then onto the year ('30s, '40s). I listen to Johnny Dollar, and other great old shows.

10. I met him briefly once
when I was working at the St. Louis airport. He was connecting on a TWA flight. This was in the late '80s. I was glad to see he was still out and about living a busy life. I have fond memories of his show from my childhood. RIP, Mr. Linkletter.
