Source: BBC

Many people are feared to have been hurt when two trains collided after an explosion in eastern India.

The blast on the tracks caused at least one of the trains to be derailed, it is reported.

The explosion, which came early on Friday local time, was feared to have caused "many" deaths, a railway spokesman told Reuters news agency.

The accident happened in an area of the country known to be a stronghold of Maoist rebels.

2. 30 killed as train derails in India -- Maoists suspected
AFP - An express train packed with sleeping passengers derailed in India Friday and slammed into a goods train, killing at least 30 people in an apparent attack by Maoist rebels, officials said.

More fatalities were feared in the mangled wreckage after 13 carriages of the Mumbai-bound express train careened off the tracks in the state of West Bengal and collided with the oncoming freight train.

Initial reports indicated the derailment may have been triggered by an act of sabotage, with officials pointing the finger at Maoist rebels who are active in the region of eastern India.

The official death toll stood at 15, but a doctor treating the injured at the site told the NDTV television network that at least 30 people had been killed.

At least 65 people died when two trains collided in eastern India after one was derailed by what officials say was an act of Maoist sabotage.

The Calcutta-Mumbai passenger train derailed overnight in West Bengal where a section of track had been removed, a rail official said.

Carriages and passengers were thrown in front of a goods train travelling in the opposite direction.

"We have recovered two posters by a local Maoist militia from the site of the accident," said West Bengal Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh. "They have claimed responsibility for the incident in the posters."

5. Who is funding the so called "Maoists?"
Answer: China and Pakistani ISI.

Maoists are basically poor people and peasants who are begrudging the advancement of the educated class as the Indian economy soars. They want a government handout to make their standard of living advance at the same pace without making the sacrifices by getting educated (education is free in India for poor and former lower caste candidates.) Before someone brings up caste, this so called maoist phenomenon is not based on caste.

The maoists simply don't have the money to manage an organization replete with weapons, communications and logistics equipment needed.

Pakistani ISI (and indirectly US Taxpayers and China) are funding this mayhem. China wants to gobble up NE India and the Pakistani ISI aka Taliban aka Al Q'aeda are there to provide terrorism expertise.

Suspected sabotage derails train in India; 90 dead

Bikas Das From Associated Press
May 29, 2010 4:02 AM EDT
SARDIHA, India (AP) — Railway authorities canceled all night trains in an eastern Indian state on Saturday after a passenger express train derailed and was hit by a cargo train, killing at least 90 people and injuring hundreds. The government accused Maoist rebels of sabotaging the tracks.

Railway workers and paramilitary soldiers used cranes to lift and pry apart train cars to search for more bodies from the Jnaneswari Express, which was heading from Calcutta to suburban Mumbai when it derailed early Friday.

"The death toll now stands at 90, and there are 149 people with injuries in hospitals," said Soumitra Mazumdar, a railways spokesman.

"We are doing everything possible to pull the bodies from the wreckage," he said.
