Voters have own minds in crazy 8th District

The race for Jennifer Dunn's seat in Congress will probably come down to voters who care deeply about their favorite issues but don't identify with either political party.
Once considered a Republican stronghold, Dunn's 8th District east of Seattle has become an increasingly unpredictable battleground.

Candidates must court voters from the mansion-lined streets of Medina to trailer parks outside Auburn. They have to figure out how to woo white-collar tech workers as well as blue-collar machinists, latte drinkers and Wal-Mart shoppers whose votes hinge on very different issues.

Dunn, a Republican, has won easily here, but so has Democratic Gov. Gary Locke. Former Republican Sen. Slade Gorton took the 8th in 2000, but so did Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore.
