Schwarzenegger takes action over 'Governator Ale'
All I can say is that Schwarzenegger is an ungrateful twat!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3584463.stm

It's been a bad morning after for a brewing company that decided to play on the image of California's governor.

A few months ago "Governator Ale" was launched, complete with label featuring a cartoon of the former Mr Universe in a strongman pose.

But Arnold Schwarzenegger's attorneys took exception to this use of his image and production has now ceased, Portland Brewing Company has confirmed.

A settlement is now in the offing, reports the Los Angeles Times.

1. Ummm...the T-word is pretty offensive....
Might I ask you politely to change it to some other perjurative? I think there may be some cultural differences, but the T-word can cause some pretty severe reactions on this side of the pond...

15. Bet they could sell it in Utah
Of course some of them ME sultans drink it by the case.

Honestly though, as a male, being hitched singular to that biological counter part is more than enough for me :-)

10. How about Gropinator Ale?
He could hardly complain about that - anyway isn't there such a thing as legitimate use of parody - even for commercial purposes? I would think Governator Ale would fall into that category.

11. No one remembers the Clinton-parody products?
Like "Whitewater" bottled water?

Clinton never threatened "frivolous lawsuits" against those guys...

12. They are not "frivolous lawsuits" if brought by republicans.
They are important defenses of a principle, dontcha know? Only Democrats and poor people can bring frivolous lawsuits.

13. This beer seems to have been named AFFECTIONATLY
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 12:30 PM by Thankfully_in_Britai
It came complete with a nice protrait of Arnie in strongman pose. They appear to have reated because, in the words of Mr Schwarzenegger's communications director Rob Stutzman, "You don't overexpose an asset like the governor." However, a beer from a micro-brewery (Portland Brewing Co does not look like a large brewery to me) is not going to overexpose him in the slightest IMHO. It's not the same as endorsing Pepsi for instance.

18. Overexpose the "asset"?
How in HELL can you "overexpose" a guy who rose to prominence by walking around on stage in a Speedo?

19. I'm guessing it was McMenamins.
The have a Terminator stout. A Terminator stout based mustard "terminator mustard." The Rubinator (black and tan with t.s. and a red called Ruby Red). I think it's just continuing the line.

14. Amusing arnie
I like that he objects to his likeness on these novelty brews, but he has no qualms about his likeness being in ads such as these :D

Love the energy drink ones!

LMAO
